Welcome to “Velvet Rope Fridays!” The purpose of this weekly celebration is to showcase and give a retrospect of every visual and sonic aspect of what many of you already know is my favorite album of all time.
Janet Jackson’s “The Velvet Rope” was released on October 7, 1997. Critically acclaimed and viewed by many as Janet’s Magnum Opus, “The Velvet Rope” took a deep dive into Janet’s discovery and acceptance of self love, self hatred, sexuality, domestic abuse, and so much more.
As a part of this celebration of an album that I view as both therapeutic and autobiographical and an artist that I view as a mirror, we’ll take a look and analyze her interviews, performances, music videos, fashion, and overall aesthetic of the era.
Come With Me Inside The Velvet Rope.
