• auschwitz auschwitzbirkenau poland polska travelphotography traveltheworld soychicaviajera sheisnotlost speechlessplaces globetrotter passport passportready igersspain neverstopexploring wanderlust travelwithme followmearoundtheworld beautifulvew travelinspiration hastaluegomaripuri girlslovetravel iamtb solotraveler backpacker thetravelcouples wonderful_places bestcitybreaks bestplacestogo

Auschwitz. Now a memorial and museum. Still an eerie place to walk around. Much smaller than Birkenau, but just as heavy with sadness. It's so important to see these places for yourself, to see the scale of how many lives were impacted by this war. To see the statistics of how many people never saw their friends or families again. 1) "Work sets you free", the words on the gate above the entrance to Auschwitz. 2) Signs placed all around the camp, reminding you these people weren't free. 3) The place where SS soldiers publicly hung prisoners who misbehaved in some way. 4) Statistics 5) Display of crutches and prosthetic limbs removed from corpses in the gas chambers 6) 's shoes collected upon their arrival at the camp 7) The Execution Wall 8) Suitcases still with names and addresses on. 9) Pots, pans and crockery taken from the suitcases of people who never got to use them again. 10) The inside of a preserved gas chamber. auschwitz poland europe museum memorial lestweforget execution massmurder holocaust evil

Anne in 1942, probably one of her last pictures ~Nanette König-Blitz~ “Suddenly I saw them both walking, Anne and her older sister Margot. Anne had lost a lot of weight, was covered with lice and had a blanket around her. I still think: how is it possible that we recognized each other. We, two skeletons. We weighed no more than 30 kilos. I crawled under the barbed wire and secretly went to her. Anne told how her life had gone. How they were in hiding and betrayed, and about Auschwitz where she had sat before Bergen-Belsen. She also told about her diary. She wanted to use that as a source for a novel. It was never her idea to publish the diary. We were also talking about "later." Despite our situation, we were mainly girls who had dreams and fantasized about the future. Anne got sick, she got typhus. I was not there when she died, I only heard about it a few days later.” . ~Ronnie Goldenstein-Van Cleef . “The Frank girls looked bad, covered with stains and scabies. On the hands and on their body. They have done some ointment on that, but there is not much that can be done about it. They were in a bad way; sad, I thought they were. There was no clothing, they had taken everything from us and we were all naked under a kind of outer blanket. You shared it with two.” . annefrank annefranck annefrankhouse annefrankhuis annefrankdiary annefrankquote annefrankhaus auschwitz auschwitzbirkenau bergenbelsen worldwartwo holocaust annefranksdiary anafrankdiario thediaryofannefrank jewish margotfrank amsterdam dutch thenetherlands history anneliesmariefrank

Auschwitz Birkenau. When we arrived the sun was shining. Birds were singing. It felt peaceful. A feeling totally at odds with what took place here not even 100 years ago. I'm not ashamed to admit I cried. I was horrified. Ashamed. Beyond sad. It's one thing to know what happened during the Holocaust, and another to witness where it took place. The conditions men, women and lived in because of their religion, race, political views and sexuality. I hope I never live to see such things happening again, but I'm scared to say I think the repetition of history is already underway. 1) The railway tracks that delivered millions of people to the place of their death 2) The barracks where male prisoners were kept 3) Inside the barracks. Often there were 4 or 5 people sleeping in one bunk with one or two blankets to share. 4) The view of the work fields from behind the barracks 5) Inside the 's barracks. 6) The remains of one of Birkenau's five gas chambers 7 & 9) Men and women from a Jewish community paying their respects at one of the places where human ashes were previously found 8) A memorial created out of the stones from fallen gas chambers auschwitz birkenau poland europe lestweforget memorial holocaust history endfascism

📍Auschwitz, Krakow From 1940 to 1945 the Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest death camp of the Nazis, consisted of three main transit centers and dozens of small camps. Approximately 1.1 million people, 90% of them Jewish, were killed in the walls of this place until they were rescued in 1945. I felt like I heard people screaming about how they were tortured and how these tortures were wearing them down. It really touched me to be in the gas chambers that we see in movies. auschwitz concentrationcamp nazis germany poland holocaust interrailturkiye gezi kadrajimdan

Visited auschwitz Concentration Camp outside of of Krakow, Poland where 1.1 million people died. Most were Jews. I shot this in B&W to reflect the somber mood of the location and the rainy muddy day. You can see a gas chamber followed by empty gas canisters and a crematorium followed by a pile of shoes of the victims. The last picture is of existing photo in the museum. holocaust travelphotography

■ Seventy six years ago, a day like today in 1943, a train departures from Thessaloniki to Oświęcim (Auschwitz) in Poland. It is the first mission of other eighteen that will follow. On that train, 2.800 Jews resided in the settlement of Baron Hirsch in Thessaloniki, folded with inhuman conditions, like animals, are heading to death at Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration and Extermination Camps.
