It’s Monday, and it’s a new week and all the possibilities are endless. It’s fresh to-do lists, new goals, etc. As I put on my new tank with the phrase Self-Love in it, I had to stop and think about switching my attitude to get my mind right this morning. Everyone talks about self love; what they don’t say is that it’s not something that instantly happens It’s not something that when you reach a certain pants size or a number on the scale will magically appear. It’s something your practice everyday. Self- love is a daily choice. It’s to see the stretch marks and remember how you are a warrior and your body has made miracles. It’s to see the wrinkles and lines in your face and think of all the laughing and smiling that it represents. Self love is loving where you are in the moment of your journey not waiting for the endbecause there is no end. Self love is knowing that while you might feel great today, tomorrow you might feel fluffy and you need love yourself anyway. Self love is reminding yourself that your body is yours and unique and that beauty isn’t defined by what other people look like but how you feel about yourself. Self love is complicated, it’s more than a hashtag or a slogan on my t shirt. There's no magic behind this area besides the fact that it can be very stubborn. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One thing we recommend to clients at OBF when this is a problem area is to follow the below 4 steps: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Lower toxic load on the body 2. Check out your skin care products and ensure they are Parabens, Phthalates (Fragrance), Boric acid and Sodium borate the list goes on and on. Aim for organic, as these above chemicals can cause hormonal disruption and elevations in estrogen fat storage. 3. Completely stop plastic use. This includes water bottles, tupperware, paper receipts. 4. Get a water filtration system for your home. We use AquaSmart at our gym, which is a 5 stage reverse osmosis filtration system. ❌problem areas❌ not a problem. this is a phrase that really grinds my gears as all it does is feed negative body images and unproductive attitudes towards fitness no part of you is a problem. not the fat on your thighs, or your belly wobble, or the bit on your hips that dips in. - using this phrase has connotations of being unsolvable, unattractive and unwanted when really none of this is true. if you have parts of your body that you don’t like: WORK to change the composition of your body and change your attitude towards it be proactive and not defeatist. - apart from that, the things often labelled as problems are natural, beautiful parts of our bodies that, while you might not enjoy it, someone else would love to have I’d kill for a set of hips and when I had more body fat would always want smaller boobs - don’t dismantle your body and attack it piece by piece, be constructive when you look at change 💭

How many times have you thought about wanting to target specific areas of the body and give them a defined appearance? . As a coach I hear it all the time . Sohere's just three quick ways you can make sure you make the most of the time in the gym . 1) - Avoid high rep ranges (20+ reps)even when in a calorie debt, we should still be aiming to trigger muscle growth and work using those rep ranges and weight The best way to do this is with heavy load and weight Typically, it's been shown that 6-15 reps is a more optimal rep range for this to happen Prioritising your weight selection on exercises around hitting these rep ranges should help significantly 2) - Prioritise major lifts and exericises The easiest way to figure out which exercises these are is by seeing how many joints move throughout the movement The more joints that have to move, in theory the better and heavier the weight that you should be able to shift Poor exercise choicesTricep extension or bicep curl . Great exercise choicesbench press, lat pulldown, deadlifts, squats . 3) - Avoid excessive amounts of cardio unless it's required When aiming to maintain muscle tissue when in a calorie debt for fat loss, excessive cardio has next to no positive impact on it (sprint based work is slightly different) . Basing your programme around weight training will significantly change the end body shape when compared against someone who has lost the same amount of weight from a cardio dominant programme P.S. I've nothing against cardio however, if someone asks how to develop muscle tone. All theory goes against steady pace cardio as does the end results seen with clients.

Slow and controlled dumbbell RDL.⁣ •⁣ •⁣ Lately my workouts have been amazing. My strength has increased and I’m lifting heavier than I ever have. My workouts have been just a time for me to release everything I have and give myself me time, which is why I haven’t been posting. This past year my workouts have not been frequent and it has done a lot to me. I feel like I’m starting all over, but that’s okay because in fitness you can start up at anytime. Thankfully this past month I’ve been consistent and I know there is no stopping me again. I’m 100% back and ready to get even more stronger 💪🏽 I have a lot going on and big plans coming up. Soon I’ll be finding a new home gym when we move to Georgia in May.
