Ogham amulet featuring Gort, which corresponds to the letter G. Gort is associated with Ivy, that sometimes grows freely. Gort is connected to growth and wildness, as well as confronting the mystical aspects of our own development and evolution. Also connected to the month of October and the Samhain sabbat, Ivy often lives on after its host plant has died–a reminder to us that life goes on, in the endless cycle of life, death and rebirth. The Celtic Ogham alphabet is an Early Medieval alphabet used to write the early Irish language, and has long been shrouded in mystery. As well as its use for monumental inscriptions, the evidence from early Irish sagas and legends indicates that ogham was used for short messages on wood or metal, either to relay messages or to denote ownership of the object inscribed. Some of these messages seem to have been cryptic in nature and some were also for magical purposes. The main use of ogham by modern Druids, Neo-Pagans is for the purpose of divination.
