Book 10 of 100 Books by Female Authors Challenge: well, I certainly learned a lot about the gulag system of the USSR. It was a pretty well-develop review of the history of the gulags and their impact on the Russian people. I’m pretty impress how approachable this book is, considering that it’s the author’s greatest work. Then again Applebaum’s writing style is pretty engaging. Nevertheless, read/listen to this one in parallel with Wachsmann’s “KL”, which is an overview of the Nazi concentration camps, if you get a chance to do so. I didn’t, but now I wish that I had.
