"Collaborate with Hanka Robotics and be destroyed." ~ Ghost in the Shell (2017) is on TV tonight. ~ It's a good reminder that I've never seen the original, so a good reminder to do so. ~ I do enjoy the movie, and probably like it more as you can see bits of Wellington in there and wetaworkshop and weta_digital had a hand in its production. ~ I also like Scarlett Johansen in there, but to be fair, she shouldn't have had that role. - CJ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ghostintheshell scifi scfiart movies film scifibooks scifimovies scifimovie anime animeinstagram hanka hankarobotics weta wetaworkshop wetadigital DesignInspiration designresearch strategicforesight foresight strategy strategic futures futueesthinking thefuture strategicbranding designthinking BrandExperience entrepreneur businessowner setdesign

Peter Jackson and his crew did a fantastic job constructing the small village from the books on the Alexander farm in Matamata. 💕🐑

"Alita: Battle Angel" Production Value: 5 / 5 Artistic Value: 3 / 5 Entertainment Value: 4 / 5 Grade: "Go See It" It's here. The adaptation that James Cameron has promised us. After all the "Terminators" and "Titanics" and "Avatar" we finally have "Battle Angel Alita". The West has largely overcome the stigma of anime / manga as an art form. Can we finally get a great adaptation? That's the question. The short answer is yes, though I had hoped we'd get stronger representation in the writing department. The story is typical, and that sucks considering the Oscar winning pedigree in front and behind the cameras. Weta Digital's effects are anything BUT typical, and when you couple that with the action, it makes a solid night at the moviesespecially in IMAX 3D. James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez know strong female leads, and Alita is certainly that. I wish they would have updated some of her motivations in light of the recent political landscape, but the adaptation remains faithful. I'll let it slide. "Alita: Battle Angel" is great Valentine's counter-programming. Action for the guys and a strong female lead for the ladies. Go for the spectacle. Don't expect much else. Top 30 Movies of 2018 13 - Mortal Engines I started making this list before I got to see this movie and from the reviews I saw, I was expecting this movie to be near the bottom. Not so. This movie is amazing. They totally showed me something I have never seen before. Battle Cities on tracks. The action and story flow well. One of the complaints from reviews was that the movie spends more time setting up sequels than telling the story. That could not be farther from the truth. I haven't read the books or anything and at the end of the movie I have no idea where the story goes from here. They really seemed to wrap everything up. The movie did nearly no business in the packed holiday season, so unless the movie does so well on Netflix that they decide to bankroll future films, there's little chance of a sequel. I understand that actors generally want to show their faces in movies as much as possible, but I kinda wish the Hester Shaw character kept the scarf on for most of the movie. There is a scene that is very reminiscent of the trench runs on various Death Stars and the opening battle of the Last Jedi. And you can match characters to most of the main cast of New Hope. This movie is a great time. top30of2018 toptenlist topten top30 top30moviesof2018 top10 top10list bestof2018 mortalengines lotr bestof thefrighteners starwars hestershaw hugoweaving herahilmar jihae annafang colinsalmon weta stephenlang wetadigital steampunk peterjackson

Alita: Battle Angel - Review 2019 “ I do not standby in the presence of evil” I was interested in this movie from the first trailer I saw, but I was not sure what to expect. I knew it was based on a manga (never read it), I knew it was lost a passion project of James Cameron but that’s like all I knew. After seeing it I can say, I really like this movie. First, I really have to praise the team at Weta Digital, this movie looks amazing. The work they have done for this is insane, it all looks phenomenal. The performance capture of the actors is like AVATAR level good. Second, Rosa Salazar, I absolutely loved her performance as Alita. Truly a rising star! Its just a cool, badass movie. The story had me and the world building had me, everything had me. The only complaints I have are knit picks nothing major at all. It’s fun action packed cool movie, worth seeing and I would absolutely recommend seeing it in 3D. I got to finally see my girl in IMAX last night and I was left floored at the quality. Those fight scenes doe 👀 even got a couple cheers from the audience. So immensely proud and humbled and thankful to have worked with so many incredible and talented human beings on an IP I've loved for a long time. It was an incredible and often gruelling experience, and I'd learned so much while working on it. Congratulations to all my friends and colleagues who made her come to life, after so long the end is finally officially here and she is gloriously beautiful. Hats off to Weta there aren't enough words to describe how incredible everything was and the attention to detail from every nut and bolt and chip of worn paint it's spectacular. Of course on the way home stalked by the mural to see progress, it's amazing. Super thrilled about the theme too. My review of “Alita: Battle Angel” I wrote for novastreamau : . Alita: Battle Angel takes place 300 years after the Fall - one of those sci-fi apocalypses they don't tell you a lot about, so the big reveal at the end surprises you. When we first meet Alita (Rosa Salazar), our heroine doesn't even know her real name. She is discovered in a scrapyard by Dr. Ido (Christoph Waltz), a surgeon who mainly works on cyborgs and humans with metal parts. Suffering from amnesia, Alita quickly realizes that she can assassinate anyone who crosses her path like its her destiny Iron City, a near-dystopia right underneath the aerial city Zalum, is an overcrowded metropolis. Most of its inhabitants dream of ascending to the supposed paradise above them, but the only way up is by becoming the final champion of a dangerous sport called motorball. Most of its competitors are here to score points to get to that number one spot on the scoreboard, and are willing to kill for it. The motorball sequences are thrilling and fast Alita discovers her hidden abilities by accident and wants to start using them more so she can remember who she really is. In brief flashbacks, slowly the bigger picture becomes clearer as we progress through the story. Her past and what exactly is going on up there in Zalum, are the two main mysteries. She is something else, something different and in many ways superior. But she's also capable of human emotion - love hurts This is the first leading role for Rosa Salazar (who's most recent role was in Netflix's Bird Box), but her performance - which is completely motion-capture - is aside of Andy Serkis, one of the most impressive I've ever seen. She embodies the character and you can't help but feel and root for her. Supporting cast includes Jennifer Connelly, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and most importantly the always sophisticated Mahershala Ali who only has a small role, but an important one, as the bad guy who's possessed as a vessel by the mostly unseen villain To read the entire review, check novastreamau , the link in my bio or my story.

🤩 I am so excited to share this story with you! 🎥 This is the piece I went to New Zealand to film with weta_digital for alitamovie Truthfully, I was so nervous to put on this skin tight motion capture suit and do a battle scene with director Robert Rodriguez because I am not a super skinny "action hero" type.🙈 But as an actress, and mom, I knew I had to put my fears aside and embrace this opportunity to ACT no matter how many of my jiggly bits were well jiggling 😂 You can watch the full video on my YouTube or on the nbcla website 💻 This was such an amazing experience but the best part was showing my daughter that her mama is an action star 😜🤗 Catch Alita: Battle Angel on Feb. 14th! . It’s stunning that “Alita: Battle Angle” had put Sci-Fi Movie to the next level. With Weta Digital’s performance capture, we finally saw lifelike interactions between 3D characters and live-action actors. You can see pores, tear stains and so many details on Alita’s face. But the most incredible is her gorgeous Manga eyes, which spent Wata Digital several months and tried over 50 compositions to complete Also the fights in “Alita: Battle Angle” are very excited, particularly the part of motorball, no doubt it’s one of the best in multitudinous Sci-Fi Movie. Even so, there still are many disadvantages like telling the story in a rush, some abrupt editing and the last shot. Overall “Alita: Battle Angle” is an excellent film bears watching in IMAX 3D 艾莉塔 戰鬥天使 Alita BattleAngle 銃夢 GUNNM 羅莎薩拉查 RosaSalazar 勞勃羅里葛茲 RobertRodríguez 詹姆斯卡麥隆 JamesCameron wetadigital

Alita : Battle Angel (2019) . Swipe for insights & trailer Read full review below ⬇️⬇️ Horror Comedy 👻 Rating : PG 13+ Director : Robert Rodriguez ⌛ : 2h502m. Plot : Set in the 26th century, the story takes place 300 years after a societal collapse caused by a major war. In that society, it's a technological dark age following a pinnacle of achievement far beyond where we are right now. Cyborg technology is a way of life. People are augmented a lot as workers, so being a cyborg is not unusual. The main character is a cyborg. She has an organic human brain, and she looks like she's about fourteen years old. She has a completely artificial body and she's lost her memory. She is found in a wreckage and reconstituted by a cyber-surgeon who becomes her surrogate father. " "Alita Battle Angel has a lot of positives especially its technical prowess. This makes it a must watch in the big screen with IMAX projection. James Cameron is the film's writer. The main character, even though the film is live-action, is done with CG animation and was shot in 3-D, using the stereo imaging system that James Cameron had been developing for his documentaries. If you liked Avatar, then this movie won't disappoint you. Overall an enjoyable film with awesome stunt sequences " Cast: Rosa Salazar, Christopher Waltz, Mahershala Ali, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Skrein, Keean Johnson, Jackie Earle Haley, Idara Victor, Lana Condor, Jorge Lendeborg Jr WOW (Worth a Watch) : ✔️✔️(Watch it in IMAX / Dolby Digital screens ) WAG (Watch as a Group) : ✔️ WAB (Watch when Alone&Bored) : ,✔️ Best Actor/Actress in film : Rosa Salazar instamovie moviereview review movie movienight movietime critic cinema art imax alita alitabattleangel jamescameron rosasalazar christopherwaltz mahershalaali anime jenniferconnelly edskrein keeanjohnson lanacondor jorgelendeborgjr idaravictor 3d wetadigital dualipa swansong jackieearlehaley alitamovie dolby

Alita: Battle Angel is the feature adaptation of a Japanese manga series that James Cameron acquired the rights to some 20 years ago. With Cameron still working on his Avatar sequels, he assigned Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) for directing duties, and now that it’s finally released, I got to attend an early screening to see if Alita soars. It does, in places, but for a passion project two decades in the making, it’s also a bit of a letdown. Let me start by saying that you should absolutely go see this on the biggest screen possible if you are into visual effects. The work done by Weta Digital is once again astounding. This movie boasts some of the best and most photorealistic effects I have seen, and in combination with Rosa Salazar’s heartfelt performance, Alita herself has become a truly wonderful heroine; a sweetly naïve and contagiously positive girl that kicks loads of ass in a couple of spectacular action set pieces, that I found to be really thrilling and immersive (for once, I recommend to see it in 3D). Such a shame it is then, that everything else is very middle-of-the-road. While I realize that the story is translated from old source material, it all feels unavoidably familiar. Alita’s world is a mix of Elysium, Ghost in the Shell, a little bit of Blade Runner and even some of last year’s Ready Player One thrown in there; morally engaging but never surprising or innovative enough to help it stand out of the crowd. It is bravely unapologetic about its animé roots, which will be a problem for those who expect a little more logic and a little less exaggerated dialogue (‘I do not stand by in the presence of evil!’), but fans of Japanese pop culture probably will have their money’s worth. That said, the narrative itself is really weak, with the same tedious origin story beats we have seen a thousand times, a thoroughly cringe worthy central romance that never convinces and takes up way too much of the runtime, and a lackluster ending that is less concerned creating a satisfying third act than it is setting up a sequel. A sequel I do hope to see someday - provided they put the same effort in the scenario as they did in those amazing effects. 6/10
