It is the last day of. 'Paintings and Drawings :Tom Shanks RGI RSW PAI' today. It has been an absolute privilege and honour working with Tom and exhibiting his beautiful work. A lot of people have asked me if I have a favourite piece in the show. It is really hard to pinpoint one particular work as they are all stunning, and depending on my mood I favour different ones each day. However, I think this piece probably stands out for me the most. In my mind it is inextricably linked with Tom and his life. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know Tom just a little bit and this drawing sums up my memories of this exhibition. tiggallery tighnabruaichgallery argyllsecretcoast wanderargyll argyllandbute wildaboutargyll scottishart scottishlandscapeart watercolourpaintings tomshanks

An aerial shot of the lovely town of Toblemory, on the IsleOfMull, in the ArgyllAndBute Council. A memory I have from this place is a group of 5/6 little girls (between 7 and 13 years old) catching crabs using a rudimental bait made of a piece of something edible (It seemed old fruit but I may be wrong) tied to a fishing line. That's it. I experienced this simple moment thinking of what may be really needed these days: coming back to a simpler life. A less stressing life. A slower life. Perhaps made by moments like these where I could see the curiousity in the eyes of my daughter joining these little girls which were playing on the port of this tiny town of 1000 souls, located in the northernmost area of the amazing Isle of Mull. In occasions like this I really understand the meaning of the hastag used by the argyllandbute abplace2b (A better place to be). All of this can be easily summarized in just 4 words: Enjoy the little things. argyleandbute scotland visitscotland port scottishtown Parrot anafi dronephotography sea sky scottishscenery camping ontheroad Mull coastal vacation

Tried to persuade no 1 son to go wild camping tonight and he’s having none of it. He looked at me like I’ve lost it and said ‘seriously Mum are you having a laugh? No danger! I like my home comforts and the thought of sleeping in a tent with you and the mutt and wild animals running through it in the middle of the night isn’t doing it for me at all’ I think he must have been swapped at birth because he’s missing the outdoor gene and is confusing argyllandbute with the serengeti 🙄😂

I went to Dunadd and got over excited and thoroughly drenched. It's difficult to overstate the importance of this relatively unassuming hill. Dunadd served as the capital for Dal Riada, the embryonic kingdom of Scots, until its capture by the Picts in the 8th century. After the Picts started getting battered by the Vikings the tide shifted, and Pictland's eventual absorption into Dal Riada saw the emergence of a unified kingdom of Alba, which developed into the Kingdom of Scotland. It's not particularly fanciful to regard Dunadd as the birthplace of Scotland itself. The first picture shows the spot where the early kings were coronated - placing a foot into the stone footprint here represented his bond with the land itself (this practice was eventually done away with, probably because of its pagan echoes). The second shows the entrance into the upper tiers of the fort. scotland history kilmartin argyll argyllandbute highlands scenery historyofScotland scottishhistory igscotland igscotland shotinscotland scotlandshots ukshots

SEATREE (1) ON THE WANDER ARGYLL MAP Tired of the stress of their jobs, Chris and Michaela took the plunge and moved to the Cowal Penninsula. They already loved to create things. Michaela worked mainly in ceramics. Chris made things from wood, took photographs and wrote poetry. Sea Tree became a way to bring these elements together as a business. They create things from clay and driftwood, often incorporating original poetry. They love to create simple beautiful things inspired by landscapes, light and life. Everything is hand made in their wee pottery and rambling woodshed. https:seatreeargyll.com/about-us/

The Lady's Tomb: The lady's tomb is thought to have formed an integral part of the chancel when the original church was built in the years following 1300. The identity of the lady entombed here is not certain, though some have said that she is Alice, the first wife of Walter Stewart, the 6th High Steward of Scotland, and father (by his second wife) of Robert II. Whatever her identity, the lady is shown lying alongside a baby dressed in a long robe, and with her feet resting on what some have interpreted as a dog. The panels beneath the tomb are inscribed with a series of figures whose identity and meaning are open to various interpretations ladystomb stmarysrothesay rothesay bute argyllandbute abplace2b tomb tombstone
