Watford have failed in their attempts to overturn Troy Deeney's red card against Arsenal.
TheHornets' skipper was sent off just 11 minutes into Monday evening's match after he appeared to elbow Lucas Torreira.
The club appealed the decision, but learned today that the red card would be upheld and that they would be without their Captain for the next three match days.
Things could have been made worse during the appeal if the claim was deemed to have ‘had no prospect of success’ and/or ‘amounts to an abuse of process
The punishment for this would have been an extended ban, as happened to Yeovil Town's Otis Khan last season.
Khan was sent off in a game against Chesterfield for using physical force against referee Kevin Johnson.
Three days after the incident, after the club had said they would appeal against the decision, the FA issued a statement confirming that the appeal had failed, but also that they were enforcing an additional two game ban for what they regarded as a frivolous appeal that had no prospect of success.
Khan therefore served a five match ban for the incident, which included an FA Cup Fourth Round tie against Manchester United.
