This week in my classes we will continue to discuss the Kleshas, aspects that cloud our perception. In our asana practice this week we will be bringing awareness to the concept of rāga. Rāga can be described as a strong desire or craving for something. Patanjali explains this as attachment. When you’re constantly seeking pleasure or gratification. I like to think of it though as OVER-attachment. For instance, maybe you had a really yummy pizza last night as you were watching the GOT finale, but today something in you says, “man that pizza was delicious, & I want another one for dinner,” even though you really don’t need that second pizza, and it probably isn’t good for you. Sometimes we want things we don’t have. We think that what we DO have isn’t enough, and we want even more of it— whether it be clothing, love, food, etc. We should begin paying attention to this attachment quality. Now, I’m not telling you to be cold or distant and completely detached I think it’s okay and even amazing to have connection and some attachment, but Patanjali means taking this attachment too far rāga is taking it overboard. From time to time, it’s good for us to pull in and withdraw from the senses. We can still be loving and we can still maintain connection, but we should also be mindful. Be watchful. Be aware. Kakasana➡️Bakasana Kakasana = crow pose Bakasana = crane pose . Arm balances, like inversions, bring a sense of fun, bravery and being completely present in our practice. Let your mind wander and the balance goes pretty fast too! 🤪 Crow pose is often one of the first arm balances - one beginner option is to start with knees on the outside of the arms. Squeeze thighs actively as you tip forward with the shoulders and eventually the toes should start to drift off the floor *The key to the balance is to stack elbows over wrists 📐* In all honesty, I rarely teach the knees outside the arms variation, as once the habit is established, it can be quite hard to move onto the next, BUT, it’s a great variation if your flexibility is a bit limited to allow anyone to fly. The Beginner/Intermediate variation is knees tucked into armpits, and heels lifted towards the bottom. Again, elbows stacked over wrists. Moving onto Bakasana, crane pose, start with arms straight. This requires strong wrists due to the over-flexion - you can see my shoulders are moving forwards over my wrists. Please do lots of wrist strengthening before attempting (check my IGTV for tips). So, arms straight, tuck the knees into the upper arms and then engage core, uddiana bhanda and mulha bhanda to lift the feet up. A good variation is to have the fists down to protect the wrists. This time is crazy tough as the energies are super intense at the moment. We feel like running, running, running - flying high. Shooting into the sky, into heaven, into Universe - without a destination. Don’t know where we are, what we do, but somehow we still are just making everything possible - pushing it to the limit. On the one hand there is so much deep power inside, feeling all this pure life running through our veins- but we might don’t know how to focus these energies for a great outputdizziness is a big thing in the last days and weeks. Feeling like an inner thunder storm. (Which is a good one, as long as you don’t panic and just trust that your inner self creates a new structure and order, which suits to the life plan of your soul). On the other hand at the same time we just feel like sleeping, meditating and connecting with the nature all day long, waking in the woods. 🌳🌾🌿The essential need of Grounding. The feeling of weakness and thoughts coming to our head in the next second like „Everything is just too much“ - so this time is so intense as there are so high ups and so deep downs of emotionsthese days are about balancingand trust. 🙏🏼 Trust yourself, your energy system, your body that you are strong, powerful and grounded enough for raising your vibes, shining on this higher frequency and to be guided by the universe to fulfill your mission on this planet and make your soul happy. If you wouldn’t be ready, you would not feel all those energies. So just trust yourself, dive deep - go with the flow. If you feel like running, hustling hard and work it out - do it now in this second you feel it ! And if you feel like sleeping, meditating, connecting with the nature only some hours later on - do that! 💫Go with the flow and trust your inner self - you know what‘s good for you right now.
