The Augusta National Manor house clubhouse is considered to be the first cement house constructed in the South. It sports concrete, or “artificial rock,” walls that are 18 inches thick. Most thought the Manor House wasn’t sufficient to work as the gathering spot for initial Club members in the early 1930s. This original building that was saved from destruction by the club's early financial problems during the Great Depression (if they'd had the money, they'd have built a new clubhouse). The famous champions locker room is on the second floor of this clubhouse. Numerous changes and additions have been made over the decades, most notably a bachelor wing, suites building, and Trophy Room and kitchen in 1946. The Grill Room building (built in 1962) is understated, where the club’s signature dessert, peach cobbler, is served. The room has views of the first fairway and a display of winner’s golf clubs. We’ll devote all of Masters week to exploring this iconic clubhouse room by room, and also the cabins, with plenty others of archival photos and iconic vintage Masters photos.
