📊 NEAT vs Cardio for Fat Loss:
People tend to think that the key to weight loss is by doing endless hours of cardio in the gym. However, it comes down to one simple factor, your energy balance (calories in vs calories out), and it doesn't actually matter how this is achieved. Whether it's through regular sessions in the gym or by increasing your daily expenditure (known as NEAT). ——
What is NEAT?
NEAT is a term that is short for Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis, simply meaning the calories you burn throughout the day outside of the gym (walking to work, walking up stairs, cleaning the house, shopping, playing with your , fidgeting etc.) Everything you do throughout the day requires energy. Therefore the more NEAT you undertake in a day the more overall calories you will burn 🔥!
So, which is better for fat loss 🤔 doing extra cardio or increasing NEAT? Simply put, either. As long as you are putting yourself into a calorie deficit you will lose weight. Whether you do this by adding cardio sessions into your weekly routine or by increasing your NEAT levels is up to you.
How to increase NEAT:
🚶♂️Walk to work.
📶 Always take the stairs when possible.
⏰ Go for a walk on your lunch break.
🚲 Cycle or walk for short distance journeys rather than always driving.
(I recommend purchasing a fitness tracker to measure your daily steps as a guideline on how active you are. Anything above 10,000 steps is great 👍😃!)
Yes, cardio is a very useful tool for weight loss, however, a slight change in your daily routine in order to be more active can have a massive impact on your weight loss 🙌.
