Shark sexytime can be a bit too rough sometimes, and could even be deadly to some females. Several males compete to mate with a female, each trying to get hold of the female’s pectoral fins with their jaw, so then they can insert one of their claspers inside her cloaca. All this passionate biting can result in some nasty wounds, like these beautiful silky shark. She will carry her pups for up to a year where she will need to dodge millions of fishing hooks and tuna nets if the next generation of apex predators is to be born. maytheforcebewithyou amiga 🦈! shark love galapagos

Wild ginger is a plant that can be easy to miss while walking through the woods. This low growing plant looks pretty bland and unordinary when looking from above, but when you look more carefully during April and May you will see some crazy-looking flowers! Each plant usually has one flower which grows at the ground. The interesting reason for this position is that it facilitates pollination! It attracts small flies and other invertebrates that disperse from the organic layer of the ground in spring. These inverts are looking for decaying flesh from critters that were part of winter-kill, and the ginger flower happens to look similar to that (if you’re a fly, that is). When the insects enter and exit the flower, they are taking pollen with them and moving to the next. Isn’t nature pretty damn amazing? In other news, I’ll hopefully be posting less plants and more herps again soon! Learn more about mantas feeding strategies all details are in the Guide to The Manta and Devil Rays of the World Chain feeding Lining up head to tail, the mantas form a line moving through the water column together along the horizontal plane. Mouth and cephalic fins are held in the same position as straight feeding and at the end of each feeding run the chain of rays often continue to hold the line, which snakes around behind the leading animal.

Sehr Euch Mal nen kurzen Videoclip dazu an.

Our newest arrival has at last been named! THAMANI - meaning precious or valuable in Swahili. Thamani was orphaned when her mother was killed by poachers during a full moon. A patrol team flying over the reserve spotted her, and instantly knew she was too to be alone. Upon searching, they found Thamani's mother, dead and with her horns brutally removed. The little calf, aged about 12 months, was brought to Rhino Revolution incredibly distressed and traumatized. When sleep eventually overtook her, she woke up confused, and crying for her mother. It has been a very difficult few months, with Thamani rejecting many types of milk and feed; thankfully her love for fresh green grass proved her saving grace in the early stages of her rehabilitation. We are very happy to say she has turned a corner; relishing her mud wallows, drinking milk well and with gusto, and enjoying an occasional head scratch from the very relieved Rhino rehab staff. A huge thank you to everyone at balulenaturereserve who coordinated her rescue, to peter_rogers_provet Pete Rogers and his team, and to the dedicated rehab staff at Rhino Revolution, Anna Mussi and Phillip Vivier. rhino calf rehabilitation care nature conservation wildlife poaching wild animal precious

I didn’t manage to post yesterday for Earth Day but honestly every single day should be Earth Day. The planet needs us now more than ever before, and conservation is something on my mind at all times. Here are small ways you can help: 1. Ditch single use plastic. I use metal straws, a cool fork/knife/spoon device I carry with me in my lunch bag, and canvas baggies for the store. I try to buy as much raw, unpackaged produce as I can for food. It’s healthier and better than buying anything in plastic. 2. Walk more. This is easier for me since I live in a city, where I can walk to work. Try to bike, walk, or use public transportation. 3. Our bees are having serious trouble. Of course we can raise our voices and put conservation on policymakers’ radar. But you can plant native plants in your garden, grow your own veggies, or spend time volunteering at a community garden. There’s several in the Denton County area. Feel free to message me and I can help you find a place to volunteer. It’s going to take all of us to protect our home. We have to act now. ✌🏼💚🌎

What else could possibly be better than the avengersendgame premiering tomorrow morning? Well, actually none at the moment! My heads are all over the marvel and the avengers team for creating such marvelous era of show stopping after show stopping movies every after another! 🎯💟 But thats not what this post is about! So a few weeks back, I decided to take a little leap of faith, and decided to submit a talk/workshop proposal for Asia Pacific Forestry Week 2019, and tonight, I received my event invite. I mean whuuuut? 😱 How cool is that? 🤔🌳 This is such, such an amazing opportunity for me to definitely step up my game and let my voice be heard! 🌱🗺 (coz u know, the world needs a few crash courses on climate change and biodiversity these days) But aside from the immeasurable amount of pressure on my shoulder at the moment, I see this no more than a once in a lifetime opportunity to improve as a researcher, a consistent biodiversity conservation advocate, and a student, myself, to lay out the reasons why our generation have been missing a lot of opportunitiea to design and create a biodiverse tomorrow. The talk will run for about an hr and 30 minutes, so apart from social anxities that s been enveloped together with this invite, I see this opportunity as nothing but growth! 🌱🍀 aaaand more than anything else, this is for you, my Oxford dream This is totally a step up for me! Happy Earth Day 🤗🌏🌟💙🐠 • The Whitsundays were actually magicalllll, but sadly the reefs were on the whole un-magical (swipe left for my shakey go pro pics). Human activities are leading to coral bleaching and the overgrowth of algae, causing coral to die. There are so many superb ways to learn about and appreciate animals in the wild instead of watching wildlife behind bars in zoos. When we travel we have to ban attractions where travellers come into physical contact with captive, wild or endangered animals like fake animals sanctuary who allows hands-on interaction included posing for photos with animals; such interactions are disruptive and frightening for them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ zoosareprisons freeanimals untileverycageisempty stoppoaching conservation sustainabletravel responsibletourism naptime lions bigfive serengeti tanzania africa exploreafrica discoverafrica wonderfultanzania africanwildlife africananimals wildlifeaddicts wildlifeplanet wildlife_seekers wildlife_perfection wildlifeonearth wildlife_vision wildlife_shots igscwildlife majestic_wildlife_ discoverwildlife animalelite bigcatsofinstagram
