‘The Three Graces’ by Lydia Blakeley on display at Laurie Grove Baths as part of Goldsmiths MFA Degree Show and her solo presentation ‘National Velvet’, which runs until ends tomorrow, Tuesday, July 23rd.
I was lucky enough to get to exhibit some of Lydia’s paintings as part of last years ‘ London Painters’ exhibition, and it’s great to see her go on to achieve everything she deserves! Looking forward to seeing plenty more of her work as she prepares for a presentation at Enter Art Fair, Copenhagen, with Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery in August, as well as a solo exhibition at the gallery’s London location next spring. Lydia also has her debut US solo show on the horizon, with Steve Turner, Los Angeles, in January 2020.
“Lydia Blakeley was born in 1980 in Bracknell, Berkshire. She is finishing her MFA Fine Art at Goldsmiths (2017-2019). She completed her BA(Hons) Fine Art from Leeds College of Art (2013-2016). Blakeley uses paint to reflect the present, which is saturated with snapshots of hyper-reality, and by using the medium as a response to popular culture. Through the painting process she attempts to introduce new layers of meaning, develop narratives and present alternative interpretations of out actuality. The materiality of her paintings reinforce the permanence of the image within an increasingly dematerialized world.” - Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery
