I recently got a much needed talking to from one of my beautiful daughters emmaalouuise 🤦‍♀️😁, the content of which was a stern 🤨but timely reminder to stop being so hard on myself as an athlete. 🏃🏻‍♀️ Emma spoke of seeing the positives in everything and being realistic in goal setting, she reminded me of the regard that others hold my running in, that athletes pick my to coach them because of my ability as a coach not a runner 😂, that times are just numbers and that sharing in the experience with other fellow runners 🏃🏻‍♀️ 🏃🏻‍♂️ gives you a whole lot more than numerical data. So this morning I ran when I could and walked when I had to, I picked a route (up Arthur’s Sear) which forces me to stop and gasp in lung fulls of O2 and smile at other runners as we hands on thighs at times, made our way to the top. As I climbed I connected with 3 positives about my running and create a positive mindset to carry with me. As part of Exped 5050, Stuart Leach has returned to Sierra Leone to summit Mount Bintumani, in the remote Loma Mountain range. He has acknowledged his Mum’s courage and inspiration by putting the finishing touches to a school that Stuart funded to be built , The Eileen Leach School of Courage. Exped 5050 is an eight-year global project that will see Stuart complete 50 unique missions before he reaches 50 years of age, helping to raise funds for RMA-The Royal Marines Charity and the SBS Association. “My Mum battled with cancer twice - beating it once and then putting up an incredibly brave fight to the end. She was, and still is, a true inspiration and has shown me what courage and positivity can achieve. This past weekend, Mum ran her 3rd Parkrun back from injury and it was her 2nd week back on full training program (a new revised and accelerated program of course). She ran her fastest Parkrun of the year so far by 26 seconds and was 33 seconds quicker then her last one. Moving in to week 3, it is more of the same with another step up in intensity as we continue to prep for her first race of the year in about 8 weeks time.
