What do you do every day to forward your artistic career? Is it taking one new photograph, writing one new script page, working on a new design, or producing a new song? How about connecting with a new person, expanding your network, or meeting new people face to face?
Increasing the scale of your accomplishments is not going to happen without increasing the size of your rolodex. Too many people rely on “hope marketing” to achieve their dreams. But that’s not how life works. It works by connections, social interactions, and relationships.
Even if you're a painter and don’t need to interact with anyone to make brilliant works of art, you're going to have a short career if you can’t sell anything. And you’re not going to sell anything if you don’t keep meeting new people.
I’ve seen amazing collaborations, business relationships, and friendships start from people meeting in Facebook groups, LinkedIn forums, and Twitter convos. It’s a new age, people. Just as we apply our creativity to produce new art, we must apply the same creativity to expand our networks – to meet new collaborators, clients, partners, and friends.
PS - If you are going to be in Newport Beach, CA on Friday (4/26/19), my short documentary, A Rockefeller Christmas, is making its festival premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival 8pm PST at the Triangle Theater.
