Try to Remember, They Were You, and O Have You Ever Been to China? , is a sweet filmsoundtrack from one of the worst stagetoscreen musicals: thefantasticks (1995) directed by Michael Ritchie. It was release limitedly in 2000 after trim the duration from 109 minutes length to 86 minutes. Based on a 1960 musical with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones. It tells an allegory story, loosely based on the play The Romancers (Les Romanesques) by Edmond Rostand. It is the world's longest-running musical (42 years until 2002), and has played through the US and at least 67 foreign countries. "You weren't joking. You've got lots of albums" Desert Blue (1998). File under ' woman admires the size of man's record collection'. The trope of the male record collector/female admirer has appeared before in this project (Singles IV 18) and will come up again. Some films perpetuate the assumption that record collecting is a male pursuit, but others either subvert the trope (e.g. the record collection in The Last Word belongs to an elderly woman) or develop it over the course of the narrative (e.g. in Ghost World Enid gradually grows out of her infatuation with record collector Seymour). In Desert Blue, whilst the musical knowledge in this scene is associated with Blue and his father, the great indie soundtrack for the film as a whole was curated by a woman, the music supervisor Tracy McKnight (see also Adventureland). Instruments! This is the Morin Khuur, aka Mongolian Horsehead Fiddle. Absolutely stunning, spiritual instrument. It’s a very special instrument to me, it was given to me by the Chinese heavy metal band Voodoo Kungfu, after they bought it while on tour in Mongolia. I played it on the score to the 2017 thriller “Gift”, and a couple of Voodoo Kungfu’s songs.

Think of Me, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Mirror (Angel of Music) is a beautiful filmsoundtrack from one of the worst stagetoscreen musicals: The Phantom of the Opera (2004), directed by Joel Schumacher. Based on Andrew Llyod Webber's 1986 musical of the same name, which in turn is based on the French novel Le Fantome de L'Opera by Gast on Leroux. Telling Lies in America (1997). Record-playing scenes in US indie cinema usually take place in domestic settings. But Telling Lies in America is part of a subgenre in which record playing occurs in a professional context, spun by promoters, DJs, performers, critics or record-store employees. Here's some examples from my study (let me know of others): Do the Right Thing, House Party, Empire Records, Radiation, High Fidelity, Almost Famous, O Brother Where Art Thou, Stark Raving Mad, The Lords of Salem, Danny Collins, Battle of the Sexes, The Last Word. (SOUND ON - Audio/Music education post) . Soundtrack composition study/teaser for Machine God (2021) . Over the past few months I've been percolating around 100 different pieces of music to suit the tone and vibe of this documentary Now that the tone is right, I can now internalise it and produce and compose works that reflect it. I'm lucky to have 25 years of various forms of audio noodling to create, however some people pick up the process in months (especially with incredibly intuitive DAWs like Ableton Live, which this was written on) . This piece is quite bare bones and needs some dynamic adjustments and a bit more colour in the transitions But the mood is perfect, the thick slabs of bass washing over a hypnotising drum machine sequence, with a soft ambient canopy of top-layer creating an ethereal envelope Doing exercises like these galvanises your ideas, forms them into shape and lodges them into your unconscious mind One the work begins to emerge, it turns into a flow on effect.

“Mosseri's score gives the film an extra layer of poetry and transcendence. It expresses the way Jimmie feels about his old house and his city. Talbot realized he was taking a chance with such a grandiose score. But in the end, the risk paid off. The latest purchases! I’m happy Music Box Records re-released Bernard Herrmann’s score for Brian de Palma’s Obsession - I missed it the first time around and it’s a great score, the kind of thing that wasn’t in vogue for much of the 70s. Piranha is a fun movie - the best of the Jaws ripoffs and it put Joe Dante on the map. And finally, Ghostbusters. This is the definitive release of these films until the next release! I’m happy they found more deleted scenes but there is still material missing from the second film, the still galleries aren’t formatted very well, the discs are stacked in the case, and they recorded a new fan commentary for the first film but I wasn’t invited! 😄 All in all, money well spent! bluray 4k bluraycollections bluraycollector blurayjunkie ghostbusters ghostbusters2 piranha screamfactory shoutfactory steelbook musicboxrecords filmscore filmsoundtrack bernardherrmann cultfilm horrorfilms

Henry Jaglom's Deja Vu (1997). 30 posts in & a definite pattern is emerging - record-playing scenes in contemporary set films (like this) tend to feature old music, but period films feature music that's 'new' in relation to the movie's setting. Can you think of exceptions (records playing new music in present-day movies or music that is older than its setting in period films)? Broadway Damage (1997). Like Johnny Suede (IV 16), Cynthia's character quirks are signalled by her ownership of a vintage record player (also within a shabby-chic New York apartment), her use of it to play non-contemporary pop, and the association of her music taste with a unique sense of fashion.
