Fishing is not an escape from life, but often a deeper immersion into it. – Harry Middleton
It is a relationship builder, too. It might be a toss-up with baseball, but fishing is one of my earliest and fondest hobbies. It was a significant factor in my first 35’ish years and I can look back on many memories and see that it was the people I shared them with that made them so special. I never really had a relationship with my old man, but fishing was one area we could connect on. Whether it was wading through the rivers & trout streams of WV, blistering the beds at Goodfellow’s with buddies, out on the river with Grandpa or even us boys pulling sunfish and fat chubs out of the creek, it brought a sense of peace. It didn’t take me long to find fishing buddies in the Marine Corps, and when my daughter was old enough to hold a pole it was an experience I was eager to share with her. She would even sit with me on Sunday mornings and watch reruns of Bill Dance, Roland Martin, Jimmy Houston & Hank Parker on TV (the latter two we ended up meeting at the FLW Expo in 2006!)
I kinda got sidetracked these last 6 years and have only been fishing a dozen times, or so, but am very excited to be getting back into it, making new memories, and building these relations! louisiana_jay_bee, this little guy has your name written all over it!
