How to do Smith Machine Shoulder Press? Main muscle trained: Shoulders 1. To begin, place a flat bench (or preferably one with back support) underneath a smith machine. Position the barbell at a height so that when seated on the flat bench, the arms must be almost fully extended to reach the barbell. 2. Once you have the correct height, sit slightly in behind the barbell so that there is an imaginary straight line from the tip of your nose to the barbell. Your feet should be stationary. Grab the barbell with the palms facing forward, unlock it and lift it up so that your arms are fully extended. This is the starting position. 3. Slowly begin to lower the barbell until it is level with your chin while inhaling. 4. Then lift the barbell back to the starting position using your shoulders while exhaling. 5. In my case, I recently started dealing with quite a lot of pain in my right shoulder while performing pretty much any chest or shoulder press exercise. This is due to a lot of tightness that goes from the lats all through the scapula and rotator cuff. A condition that came out from absolute nowhere, not too far away but from previous tightness conditions that were not treated properly 😓. The result is a significantly reduced range of motion (ROM), causing lots of pain and a slightly bad form in the gym (which I didn't realise). ➖ Took the first chance today with a bit of time off work to get treated by andeeryrie at healthspacepyrmont . Absolutely recommended to anybody looking for chiro, remedial massage, cupping and acupuncture, and any kind of adjustment. After a muscle release session, adjustments, and rock tape application to help me keep that correct shoulder position, I could already feel some relief. We'll keep working together until we fix it, so I can face my next big comp prep with more piece of mind. On my end I'll definetly try to improve my stretching, mobility, muscle relief and posture with dedicated exercises and routines. This is the one of the only few times I’ve tried squats outside the smith machine 😬. I have always found squats are the most difficult exercise for me to do, so as you can see my form is 👎🏾. A lot of work needs to done on form, hip mobility, depth, foot placement ect.
