Rice pudding. 2 syn breakfast Rice pudding Saves your HeB in the morning and so filling like porridge I mixed mine with 1.5tsp sweetfreedomuk coconut choc shot for 1syn, and 1syn of apesnacks coconut curls (the whole bag is only 5syns!) For the pudding. I never measure this out. I line the bottom of a small pan with Pudding rice, add a couple of squirts of Jordan’s skinny syrup (or you can use regular sweetener and syn accordingly). Then I add Alpro unsweetened Almond Milk (1 HeA allowance), bring to the boil. And then simmer on low, and slow. shellscafe is on of the best places for food I know. Others must agree with me because when I went in yesterday there was a waiting time of 25 mins, but I had no problem waiting 😂. I spent the time in their gorgeous shop where there is an amazing selection of food and jewellery on sale. So this was one of the specials, pulled beef burger with smokey bacon and cheese and chips. It was 😍😍😍 And for dessert a berry smoothie which is hiding in the background. Here we have it everyone, my homemade salt body scrub! It is made with coconut oil, organic and local salt from Cape Verde salt mines on the island of Sal, dried and finely chopped blood orange peel, finely chopped locally grown mallow (an herb), sweet orange essential oil and vanilla oil. It’s been a while since I made this and I forgot the proportions. It is one cup salt and 1/2 cup oil. I used 1 cup of oil instead and had to make a double batch but it’s ok because it will last me for a while. I’m going to let this sit for about 3 days so that oil can become infused with the ingredients then I’ll use it. I wish you guys could smell this, it has a delicious vanilla and orange scent. * * * A little word on some difficulties that I’ve encountered. To make body scrubs you have to use a carrier oil. There are many options given when you search, from jojoba, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, olive oil and even canola oil. Out of all these options canola is the most affordable but because I associate it so heavily with cooking oil I just couldn’t see myself using it. Same goes for olive oil, but I have used it a couple of times. Out of all the options sweet almond oil and coconut oil are the best and most affordable option for my preferences. Since being here in CV I’ve made body scrubs many times but sometimes I do run into difficulties. There are times that this coconut oil, which is 500 ML costs about $5.30,(I’m not factoring in the current exchange rate for the sake of simplicity)and is a good price, is available. However there are other times of the year where this kind of coconut oil is not available anywhere here in SV. Sometimes for months at a time. There will be other brands of the same size but for almost twice the price. Furthermore these oils do not come from Africa. They are imported through the EU, Brasil, and the one that I used today from Sri Lanka. I found this to be very frustrating because these are things that exist in abundance on our continent. If I am in Africa I should have access to coconut oil and other natural products like Shea butter, year ‘round and at affordable prices year ‘round. [Continued in Comments]

When I woke up this morning I was seriously craving pasta and chicken. I did a quick scan of the potential ingredients that I had at home then I went out to buy the ones I would need. They were: chicken breasts, red peppers, green olives and spinach. Here are the results pasta with chicken, daikon radish, carrots, spinach and green olives. Process: first I cut seasoned and browned the chicken and set it aside. Next I sautéed the radish and carrots and set them aside. Then I sautéed onions, tomatoes, and red peppers, added chicken, carrots and daikon radish. I added about one cup of white wine and boiling pasta water to make the sauce. I let it simmer for about 7 minutes while the pasta was cooking. Then I combined the sauce with the pasta in a pot, added spinach and olives, gave it a few turns until the spinach wilted and it was done. [SWIPE] to see the pasta sauce while it was simmering after all the ingredients had been combined. I am the self-proclaimed “pasta specialist” in our family. What do you guys think? Dinner time tonight we have another traditional Cape Verdean dish which is called “guisado.” It is made with meat and vegetables (potatoes, carrots, cabbage, yucca etc.) I am putting my personal twist on the traditional, as always. My version has beef which I browned in the pan first with potatoes, cabbage and lentils. Now lentils are not usually a guisado ingredient but I had some leftover and put it right in. Here it is everyone Japanese soufflé cheesecake It came out really good and the cake tasted delicious with light and fluffy texture. I looked through a few different recipes before choosing this one. I chose it primarily because the recipe called for using a 9 inch round pan which are most commonly sold in the stores in the area where we live. I also chose it because the recipe provided very clear instructions along with pictures of each of the cooking steps as a visual aid. I was nervous to make this cake because it was my first time, but I’m glad to have found a recipe that gave clear instructions and helpful tips, making it almost impossible to fail.
