UNTRAINED AND UNLICENSED AGENTS:VULTURES OF MODERN AFRICAN FOOTBALL
I have been sitting this story for close to two weeks now.
I met these Ghanian footballers who came to Zambia in hope of plying their trade in the Zambia Super League but instead are getting evicted from their lodge and are surviving on water and bread after their agent abandoned them.
According to these guys, they paid their Zambian agent $400 each (They are 6) and were promised to be taken to atleast three Zambian clubs for trials but when they arrived, the agent demanded the money at the Airport and was supposed to take care of their food and accommodation but after 3 days, she was nowhere to be seen and the players resorted to eating bread and water to save whatever little they had left after paying her.
She asked them to sign contracts where she would get 30% of their signing on fee and also get 10% of their monthly pay.
When the players settled in their lodge, she never showed up to take them for trials, instrad she directed them to go to the clubs and introduce themselves. One of them was harrassed at one of the clubs when he tried.
The players say they met the Zambian agent through a Nigerian agent, who they paid for this connection to come to Zambia.
As of 3 days ago, when one of the players confronted the agent about holding her end of the deal, she threatened to have him arrested.
Story is still developing, can't name names or institutions at this stage as I have not had the chance to talk to the agent even though I know her.
This is why African football will never develop.
I once read something Edem Djokote shared that lighlighted cases like this, but also painfully revealed how so called football agents are duping parents into paying them thousands of dollars to introduce their teenagers to European Clubs.
When these get to Europe, these agents drop them at the gate of the football clubs and varnish, leaving them to fend for themselves in a foreign country.
IF YOU LOVE THE BEAUTIFUL GAME, SHARE THIS STORY AS MUCH AS YOU CAN
