The importance of Alien to both science fiction and horror is fully evident in the unequivocal influence it's had on respective genre films. Women as heros, technology as villains, and a wetly grimed old-tech-as-new-tech aesthetic that's as important to building tension and fear, as the alien itself. We've seen countless takes on the formula, but none still to this day have managed to so successfully balance them to the degree seen here, and that includes every subsequent effort by Ridley Scott himself. It almost feels underserved just calling Alien a seminal piece of cinema, but it's at least that.
