Some of you know my story, others don’t. Here’s a bit of my story This Pakrat, this cube of metal, called a storage container is a pretty significant part of my past. This container signified & solidified a new start for me. One of the hardest but best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. Once it was packed with my previous life, I put whatever else I could fit into my SUV & drove across the country to the West Coast & never looked back. I’m not sure how it’s going to be unpacking this box of metal. It could be emotional, could bring up feelings of happiness, anger, relief, sadness I don’t know, but it’s time to find out. I’m trying to put my thoughts in a place of peace & belief that everything does happen for a reason. I believe that reason is here. I’m finally somewhere where I have a sense of belonging, stability & strength. I haven’t had that in a very long time. So the reason is here, for some reason this is where I needed this metal box delivered. I’m still not 100% certain exactly what that reason is, but one day I will figure that out. So I think most before and afters are a bunch of 🐂💩. Mostly because in the before pic, I feel like most people are slouched, not smiling, no makeup and hair not done. Then in the after, they are in a different outfit with their hair and makeup done smiling ,sucking in and flexing. Which is wonderful, but why cant you be the same smiling person in the before pic also? Or at least be real about it. I'm wearing the same pants and shirt in both pics above, 2.5 years apart. But in my before, I'm smiling and very proud of myself because we had just done an amazing hike. You bet your ass I was sucking in because I was standing next to my skinny friends and my son was only 6 months old in the before pic. Looking for an absolutely amazing protein rich meal, look no further than this stunning salmon and wild rice dish. Everything Nina tastethefitlife produces is beautiful, nutritious and health focused. She is an up and coming food superstar!⁣ . ⁣ Here’s how she did it👇🏼⁣ . ⁣ Wild rice ⁣ Sauté half a leek in 1 Tsp oil in a pot on medium heat. Once softened, add 1 1/2 cups wild rice and 3 cups of water plus your preferred vegetable stock. Simmer gently with a lid until cooked and all the water has been absorbed (typically 35 mins). Separate rice grains with a fork and cover before serving.⁣ . ⁣ Salmon ⁣ Sprinkle salt and pepper on your salmon and add to a hot pan. Don’t disturb and let it cook for about 5 mins or until you see a golden crust forming. Turn and cook for another minute, before turning off the heat and letting it rest in the pan, for slightly pink in the middle salmon. Slightly longer for cooked through but remember even off the heat, the salmon will keep cooking.⁣ . ⁣ Serve up with your fav salad, sprinkling roasted pumpkin seeds and milled black sesame (see previous posts) for added nutrients and flavour. Full of Omega 3, 6 and 9 it’s a light but satiating dinner option that also punches above its weight with complex carbs and fibre. This sweet little boy is an amazing soul but has always been SOO picky! I used to worry about what to give him so that he had nutrition in his body. “ I feel so fat today” “ I look terrible” “ I can’t ever stick to a diet” “ I don’t have time to workout “ “ I have no energy” SOUND FAMILIAR? Has your inner narrative spoken these words this week ? Truth is, I am guilty of this too! And have to raise my hand on this one this week. Thankfully, this isn’t a norm for me anymore. But it sure uses to be. I would wake up and look in the mirror and say to myself “you aren’t good enough, you’re fat, you’re failing, you have to work harder, stick to the actual diet! Stop messing up! What is wrong with you!” I woke up every morning my looking in the mirror, totally defeated. The crazy thing is, when I spoke these words, I was at the skinniest point of my life and collectively One of the darkest places of my life. Thankfully, i am no longer there! God has walked me through that valley and out into the other side. I definitely have moments where I can get sucked back in and that downward thought process will try to take momentum. However, I am equip with the tools today to STOP the momentum in its tracks! Out of this dark season came the devotional, HIS TEMPLE. In the His Temple Devotional, i take you through a journey of worth, and understanding on how to eat and exercise out of a place of love and self worth, instead of looks.
