The Murder Clinic (1966) A cloaked black glove killer stalks the corridors and the patients in a hospital for the "very insane" with no main protagonist this lacked an emotional connection that makes so many gialli effectively suspenseful but has a decent red herring count, few nude moments for a change, and is beautiful to look at . Check it out , worth the 90 minutes of Italian gothic horror that was the early incarnation of Giallo films. 6/10 -Eva Dead (Directed by: Elio Scardamaglia/Lionello De Felice staring William Berger, Françoise Prévost, Mary and Barbara Wilson. evadeadreview lilvanhelsingsreviews themurderclinic italianhorror gothichorror giallo earlygiallo allhorror asylumhorrorflick giallofilm giallofanatic horrorishealthy blackglovekiller allthingshorror horrornerd horroraddict horrorreview scarymovies gialloitaliano evildoctor

Obligatory cinemawasteland haul post (plus bonus Neon Maniacs mail day while I was out in Ohio)! Caught up on a lot of bluray releases, upgraded a few, and nabbed a few "lost in legal limbo" DVD boots as well! diabolikdvd was the biggest hit for me at the show (and have every show since they've become regulars!). severinfilms came in as always to deliver those amazing box sets and Blood Farmers! Nods also to synapsefilms and massacrevideo! Nabbed one of the few remaining Coffin Joe figures from the excellent pallbearer_press. Finally DreamHaven Books and Comics provided the Flowers of Perversion and Creepy Images zines and Monster Bash Conference hooked it up with Twilight People and those two awesome UK Hammer zines! I tagged all these great companies/friends/stores because they are essential for fans like us. 1971’s Giallo, The Iguana with the Tongue of Fire, involves a murderer with a penchant for acid and a straight razor. The movie is set in Dublin, Ireland, which was an interesting setting for this particular genre. The movie features a cavalcade of characters, and I do mean cavalcade. I felt like a Venn diagram would have come in handy for this film. There are also a handful of characters that look very similar to one another, so pay extra close attention when watching. As with any Giallo, there are plot twists and turns, with red herrings thrown in for good measure. This movie is no exception. There is a bit of gore, but the body count isn’t a very high one. If you are a Giallo completist, then by all means, you need to see this one. The Iguana with the Tongue of Fire, may not be a good jumping off point if you are just getting into the Giallo genre. It is a bit on the slower side and the plot seems overly convoluted. This is one that you may want to watch once you have viewed some of the better known films of the genre. That said, Arrow Video has done a fantastic job on the film transfer to Blu-ray. Happy I own this one, but not a film I will return to often. giallo gialloblogs gialloblog giallofilm giallofilms giallofan horrormoviereviews horrormoviereview horrorjunkie filmreviews filmreview moviereview moviereviews movierecommendation arrowvideo horrorfan gayhorror gayhorrorfan gayhorrorfans horrorhound gorehound

Here is one of the shots I’ve been working on part of an ongoing personal project entitled “Night Trap.” The project combines concept art and music I’ve been working on over the last two years. Together the elements create a sense of a cinematic narrative that reference 70s giallo films and the scores of cult figures like John Carpenter. Tenebre (1982) Dir: Dario Argento Famed American author Peter Neil is taking a trip to Italy on his latest book tour, only to discover himself trapped within a series of events which mimic his latest novel. When Peter arrives in Italy he soon becomes involved with a series of brutal slashings, which seem to be done as a tribute to Neil's work. Deciding to become the detective of his own story Peter begins to investigate why someone would be picking off critics, and socialites around him. Leading to a cat and mouse dance between ruthless killer, and sly detective work. Tenebre brings Argento back to the infamous "giallo" genre, and he returns with an astonishing amount of cinematic style. Tenebre, which is Italian for darkness, is an ironic title since the film is filled with bright whites, sunlight, and lots of daytime scenery. However, the storyline is indeed rather dark here. Women are the prime targets of the films misogynistic blade wielding killer, and these killings are often brutally shot, and highly gory. Throats are slit, people are stabbed, axes are buried in flesh, and plenty more violence awaits viewers. Goblin gives the film a wonderful synth-eletronica sound track that elevates the films events. Camera work is also very cleverly displayed, and features some masterful long-shots without any visable edits which De Palma, and Hitchcock would envy. The storyline is perhaps the most generic element, as it is the basic giallo film fodder, but it is truly the collaboration of all involved that make this a true powerhouse of a horror film. tenebre darioargento italianhorror eurohorror italiancinema horror gore vhshorror retrohorror giallo giallofilm horrorfilm murdermystery slasherfilm horrorfan gorymovies goblin johnsaxon violent 80shorror

Amuck! It's a super-fun giallo with a simple plot and loads of style. Barbara Bouchet and Rosalba Neri are clearly having a fun time (as indicated in later interviews) and although no one seems to be taking it seriously, that works to the film's benefit. A perfect Sunday morning flick.
