British Colonial style: This open air living space is so relaxed and inviting - giving true meaning to the island vibe. The fresh linen drapery is casual yet elegant. The mahogany bench with cane seat is a BC Signature. The leather faced cabinet is sophisticated in its detail, and yet practical. The striped linen ottoman offers a bit of a contemporary touch, as do the printed pillows. It’s all about maintaining the classic signature elements while keeping things current and fresh. The classic without the current becomes stuffy and outdated, giving the feeling of a stage production or museum. The current without the classic becomes shallow and fleeting - just think of all of those interior trends that have come and gone, one moment interesting and the next repugnant. Marrying the two is the key to a timeless look, in my opinion. britishcolonialstylebritishcolonialdecorislandstyleislandhome
Take a look at this showstopping mirror from Ethan Allen. Made of cast resin and finished with gold leaf, the detailing (zoom in) is striking - right down to the hanging functional bells. The accurate reproduction is a replicate of a French chinois antique mirror. Not only does it do justice to its inspiration, but also offers all of us the chance to own and display such a piece. Personally, I always love the mix of the orient and occident - that European Chinois effect gets me every time. This piece in particular would look stunning in a British Colonial entryway looking down on a heavy mahogany console adorned with symmetrical porcelain urns. I can also imagine the mirrors framing a grand entryway (see previous post of Ralph Lauren’s Jamaica estate). britishcolonialstylebritishcolonialdecormirrorchinoiserie
The Safi stencil is currently my favorite design in the shop. Now I have to be honest with youmy favorite stencil changes daily! 😂 But the Safi was so easy to use, and it makes such a statement. I'm even thinking about using this in my bathroom. We haven't stenciled on lino yet, so it would be good practice to give you guys some sound advice 👍 what do you think?

When Monday's have you pondering how quickly the weekend flew! For now we will just delight in this interior and the beauty of a re-imagined coffee table. Who else uses an old bench as a coffee table?

Meet Sir Purrs A Lot. He used to enjoy the mouse hunt as much as any of his peers, but these days would prefer to sun on the comfy sofa in the library. Take long walks in the garden rain or shine. Always finding his way to the koi pond. Yes, he will leave the mouse hunting to the younger generation. After all he taught them well.
Absolutely love how creative my client went with her tile picking. Using the concept of half wall treatments, she picked similar hues and separated them in the dry and wet zones in her guest bathroom. learningsfrommyclient
