lostworldofbayside Marco POLO! Toothed whales (Odontocetes) are the top predators in the modern oceans. By using a series of echo-locative and loud clicks, whistles and highly vociferous warblings, they can find their prey in the gloom. It's an incredible 6th Sense and odontocetes can make sense of all these noises via their incredibly dense ear-bones. These ear-bones are located at the bottom of their skull and are highly diagnostic. In the picture above is an earbone (periotic) from an unknown species of dolphin (completely new to science) that was found only a few weeks ago. Ancient red grill-shaped sign from Las Aguas de Novales in Spain likely created between 13,000 and 17,000 years ago. As you'll see, it's surrounded by relatively modern grafitti (made by novice monks from a nearby monastery in recent centuries). Absolutely not condoning defacing ancient paleo art (please please don't!), but it is interesting to think about what archaeologists 10,000 years from now might think about these "ancient and mysterious black markings". (Makes you wonder too what people 15,000 years ago might have thought when they walked into a cave filled with 30,000-year-old art.) paleoart iceage ancientgraffiti archaeology perspective philosophicalthoughts magdalenian paleospain geometricsign redochre caveart timeisrelative cantabria spain

Ice age scapula, likely a deer of some kind. I found it yesterday at a sand quarry. The sand quarries mine glacial dirft deposits and mechanically sort out large rocks. That means this was likely carried there via glacier from many miles away or atleast quickly buried by the glacial deposits. According to Jean C. Prior, this part of Iowa has not a glacier for over 500,000 years! iceage geology paleontology deer nature science sandquarry glaciers glacialdrift
