What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962) Dir. Robert Aldrich
My rating: 6/10 ⭐
Imdb rating: 8,1
Rotten Tomatoes: 92%
Robert Aldrich's claustrophobic psychological thriller/horror is an unforgettable film with its great performances, creepy atmosphere and themes that lasts through time.
Blanche Hudson (Joan Crawford) looked with jealousy on her vaudevillian wonderkid sister Baby Jane (Bette Davis) during their childhood. Growing up, their roles were reversed when Blanche became a famous Hollywood actress. One night Blanche are involved in a car accident, supposedly caused by Jane, that left her crippled. Years later, they're both living in an old mansion, Jane filled with hate and jealousy, and Blanche left dependent on her sister since she's confined to one floor in a wheelchair. They're on the edge of driving eachother crazy, or worse. Aldrich's direction is very good. He brought back the two stars in the spotlight, and they corroborate they're two of the best actresses that ever lived. Part of their great performances and chemistry might have stemmed from their real-life hatred for eachother.
