I know everyone is dealing with their own kind of problems. But it costs nothing to be gentle with someone else. Please be kind ! You don’t know how much you can impact in the life of others

***Please forgive the crappy photo. There’s a lesson in audio here.*** Even the best theater installations sometimes need a little reinforcement. Today is no exception. Their very well tuned and maintained JBL Vertec system covers the audience very well but our show needs a little extra love on the low end.
Bringing in supplemental subs is easy. Finding a place to put them that won’t obstruct sight lines or reduce performance space isn’t always as easy.
Enter the end-fired array. Ideally these boxes would be the same make, model, processing and amplification. Unfortunately this isn’t an ideal environment. The supplemental subs are JBL VTXS28 subs. Larger, louder, more powerful than their Vertec cousins.
Some careful measuring with my rationalacoustics Smaart 8 system I was able to match level and frequency response of the different stacks. Then I aligned them be delaying the whole house system beyond the supplemental subs then delayed the supplemental subs to phase align with the house. The result is +6db summing on the subs in front and -6db rejection behind. (If you’re not an audio person that means it’s 2x louder in front and 1/2 as loud behind. It’s the best for everyone. The audience feels the music and the band/crew on stage doesn’t have their brains rattling in their skulls.
Science is fun
