The body of a wolf, the legs of a deer, the face and colors of a fox The MANED WOLF! Though, it is not closely related to wolfs at all and is the only species in its genus Chrysocyon (which means 'Golden Dog'). Because they are also known for their distinctive odor of its territory markings, it earned the nickname 'Skunk Wolf'. Where: This NEAR THREATENED mammal is found in open and semiopen habitats, especially in grasslands in south, central-west and southeastern Uruguay, northern Argentina, Bolivia, the north and east of the Andes, and southeastern Peru.
Food: omnivorous, small to medium sized mammals, bird and fish; a large portion of its diet (50% according to some studies) is vegetable matter. Too much meat caused them to develop bladder stones. They hunt alone and do not form packs, usually between sundown and midnight
Length: The average adult stands 90 cm (35 in) tall at shoulder and has a head-body length of 100 cm (39 in) + a tail of another 45 cm (18 in). They are the tallest of wild canids.
