One night, her favorite star of stage and screen, “Penny Ella Vodka,” signed her Playbill, and she couldn’t have been more elatedthat is until she got home and read it: “Dear Clara, thank you for coming to my show 14 weekends in row. While you may be freakishly obsessed with me, please know Penny Ella Vodka is my drag queen name, and well, I might have different parts than you do. Hope that doesn’t change anything. -Love, Pen.” While Clara was completely confused, she smiled and “tucked” the playbill under her pillow and fell asleep in complete oblivion. She didn’t have Google in 1963, but a few years later she realized, that Penne A La Vodka would becomes her favorite dish.
