A VFX breakdown I made for MIDI Learn, showing the layers of visual effects created on iPhone + iPad that were used in the short film.
I decided that if my first film was gonna be shot on a phone, it had to be edited all mobile as well. VFX, color grading, music, everything. As y'all know, I've been a firm believer in the potential of mobile devices for years. So, I felt like the only way to pull this vision off, would be to challenge myself to make the most ambitious iPhone video edit I ever made.
This meant it was necessary to figure out how to do this without significant quality loss, and it ironically called for a more restrained approach. Flashy stuff can be cool but that's useless if it derails the narrative focus. For this project, less was more.
My end goal was to create visual elements that complimented this specific cinematic tone, but aim to do so in a way & on a level I hadn't seen done exclusively on mobile much, if at all. It was difficult but I think I achieved that.
My next all-mobile project will increase the scale extensively. More to come
