Oestrogen\Estrogen – our beloved sex hormone. We know we need her but why? •
Oestrogen put simply is more of a stimulatory hormone than her sister progesterone, she promotes growth, increases energy & libido.
Think of her like your sassy super extroverted friend, she’s fun & incredibly inspiring in moderation but sometimes you just need to downtime from her to reflect & relax.
I think you’ll also be surprised to know that oestrogen has major activity in many body systems not just our reproductive & menstrual health. She a big player in mental health, mood, energy, sleep & even skin health. A bit of an overachiever I’d say! •
Oestrogen is a collective term for a group of hormones: oestradiol, oestriol, oestrone. Oestradiol is our main circulating oestrogen during menstruating years.
Here are just a few cool things oestradiol promotes:
•Production of the ovum (egg formation)
•Thicken of the endometrial lining & maintain the thickness of vaginal & urethral lining
•Vaginal lubrication to prevent dryness
•Sensitises your brain to dopamine & promote serotonin production (hello lovely mood & restless sleep)
•Bone growth & prevent osteoporosis
•Enhances sensitivity to insulin for better blood glucose control
•Prevents the decrease in collagen & moisture (hyaluronic acid & mucopolysaccharides) to promote healthy, glowing skin 💁♀️ 💕
