Your ripe bananas are calling! Super Moist and Soft Banana Bread Ingredients: 1 ¾ cup brown rice flour or other gluten free flour 2 large ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup) 1/2 cup pure maple syrup 2 eggs, beaten ¼ cup almond milk (or water) 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil 1 tsp. aluminum free baking soda ½ tsp sea salt 1 tsp cinnamon powder 1 tbsp. chia seeds Instructions: Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a medium loaf pan with olive oil or line with parchment paper (for easier removal). In a large bowl whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon powder and salt. In another bowl whisk together the olive oil and maple syrup. Add the eggs, mashed banana and milk (water) and mix until well combined. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until combined. Stir in chia seeds. Pour batter into the loaf pan and bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool in the loaf pan for 10 minutes, then let it cool for another 15-20 minutes on a wire rack before slicing it. Tip: My favorite way of eating this bread is with organic butter which melts when the bread is still slightly warm. Before I first started experiencing autoimmune issues at 18 years old I was super active, playing tons of sports and a big runner. Over the years, though, my relationship with exercise has changed dramatically. I always just though exercise = healthy, so even if I feel poorly when I do it I should still push through because it's good for me. ⠀ ⠀ I naturally began to gravitate towards more gentle exercise like yoga and walking, and found that after these types of exercises I actually had energy afterwards and I felt good. When I went for runs or did classes where I has to "push through" and grit my teeth I inevitably felt drained, inflamed and depleted afterwards.⠀ ⠀ If you're experiencing autoimmune issues you already have a number of "stressors" going on in your body. Although exercise is a good stressor, it can sometimes contribute to a burden on the body that can lead to flares and fatigue. No one tells you this though. We're still presented with the "no pain no gain" and "push through it" model of exercise and depending on where you're at with your health that just isn't going to work.⠀ ⠀ So how do we find a balance that feels good? ⠀ ⠀ Andrea Wool of getautoimmunestrong speaks about this topic beautifully on the latest episode of The Live Well Podcast. BODYWEIGHT AB EXERCISES . Big misconception that if you train abs you will automatically be able to see them. Training abs will grow your ab muscles but it won’t burn your stomach fat because you can not, and I mean it’s impossible, burn fat in one specific area. You can build muscle in one specific area, but not burn fat. Fat burns/drops overall from your body. So if you’re trying to be ‘toned’ you need to take into consideration how much muscle you have AND how much your body fat percentage is. Here it comes 🤩 ⠀ First recipe of the ramadan program is revealed!⠀ My “oat katayef” are to die for 🤤⠀ ⠀ You need:⠀ For the dough:⠀ - 1 cup low fat milk⠀ - 1 cup oat flour⠀ - 1 tsp yeast⠀ For the filling:⠀ - 2 cups low fat milk⠀ - 2 toast⠀ - 2 tbsp starch dissolved in 1/2 cup water⠀ - 1 tsp crashed mastic ⠀ - ground pistachios ⠀ ⠀ Method of preparation:⠀ - mix the dough ingredients & let them rest for 30 mins⠀ - trim the toast edges ⠀ - in a saucepan mix the milk with the toast & dissolved starch until thickened⠀ - add the mastic & let it cool⠀ - bake the katayef dough as usual ⠀ - fill each dough with 2 tsp cream ⠀ - sprinkle some pistachios on top ⠀ - serve with 1 tsp honey 😋⠀ ⠀ It’s a famous Arabic dessert that’s usually enjoyed during Ramadan, so why not having it in a healthy way!
