Patriots ax Antonio Brown amid sexual assault investigation after he was dropped by Nike and hours after head coach Bill Belichick stormed out of press conference when quizzed about the scandal-hit wide receiver
The New England Patriots have released Antonio Brown just 11 days after signing him for $15 million, following sexual assault allegations against the controversial wide receiver.
The New England Patriots are releasing Antonio Brown,' the team said in a statement on Friday. 'We appreciate the hard work of many people over the past 11 days, but we feel that it is best to move in a different direction at this time.' Moments after the Patriots announced his release on Friday, Brown tweeted: 'Thanks for the opportunity Patriots GoWinIt.' Brown, 31, only signed with the Super Bowl champions on September 9, two days after being released by the Oakland Raiders without playing a game due to his social media feud with management.
The day after signing with the Patriots, Brown was accused of rape in a lawsuit filed in Florida, and later of unwanted sexual advances by a second, unnamed, woman.
Just hours before the Patriots released Brown, an attorney for the second accuser contact the NFL to report that Brown had sent the woman 'intimidating and threatening' text messages, and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick stormed out of a press conference after refusing to answer questions about Brown's controversies.
