I used a mix of sampled percussion along with live recording on this piece. To reflect the story, I kept a strong military vibe and even used sampled marching along with battering rams. I’m always trying to immerse the story into the score anyway possible.

Used an old guitar hanging bracket to put this uke up today, and it's not even heavy enough to engage the auto-locking mechanism 😅

When I was plotting out the year, one of my lesser, unspoken goals was getting 1000 streams on at least one of my songs that was coming out. I'm happy to announce that my cover of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger made it past that goal and is still climbing! Thank you so much to everyone who has streamed it, shared it, added it to playlists or just mentioned it to a friend. Every little bit helps and I'm so grateful for it. You can stream it for yourself wherever you find your favorite music. PorgyAndBess Miles Davis/ Gil Evans • • • "When Gil wrote the arrangement of "I Loves You, Porgy," he only wrote a scale for me. No chords gives you a lot more freedom and space to hear things there will be fewer chords but infinite possibilities as to what to do with them. Classical composers have been writing this way for years, but jazz musicians seldom have." — Miles Davis Recorded: Jul. 22 & 29 & Aug. 4 & 18 1958 Released: Mar. 9, 1959 MilesDavis GilEvans Orchestral Jazz CoolJazz Masterpiece

✨Light Calvary Overture✨ Hi I’m back! This is from my community band rehearsal from 2 Tuesdays ago lol. Yikes in this recording I wasn’t using great support for those high b’s but it’s all good now :) Honestly I haven’t practiced this summer as much as I wanted to. As I get older my family expects more of me and they don’t really understand how much I have to practice to be successful. So me not practicing/posting isn’t bc I was enjoying summer, its bc I was trying to help out my family. BUT today is my first MB rehearsal of the school yr! So very soon I will be mostly active again! As for the EOTW, I will still be posting etudes but more like etude of the random time I choose to learn a etude? My plan is that it will be semi consistent but whenever I actually have time to learn music on the side. Sorry a long caption but wanted someone to know what was up. Happy Tuesday! Trombone Tip Tuesday! Double tongue! First things first, find the syllable that’s best for you! Second, simple 16th note exercises on chromatic scale works great. (I’ll post in my story the exercise so you can screen shot for reference). Start by finding your fastest single tongue speed on a single note. (Bb on top of the staff for example). Say you can single tongue that at 120, subtract 20 (quarter = 100) and start there. The next day, add 3 clicks to the exercise, and so on. By the end of the week you’ll be double tonguing at 121 bpm. At the beginning of the 2nd week, start at 103 and add 3 clicks everyday. Ad nauseam until the end of time! altotrombone trombone basstrombone contrabasstrombone music jazz classical brass lowbrass art newmusic instagood instalike contemporary experimentalmusic improvisation edwardstrombone bachtrombone tattoo beards orchestral july practice tromboneplayer posaune trombonist 100daysofpractice tuesday

Laying in some synthesizers! My love for the Yamaha CS-80 cannot be contained. I will find an excuse to put it on every score I compose. I’d stop sampling them and buy a real one if they weren’t 600 lbs and didn’t spontaneously catch on fire! 🔥 💀 🔥

"Chamber Music in the New World brings forth some important discussions about current music trends, particularly since Smig’s work exists in the realm of modern orchestral music. The album exhibits a restless compositional philosophy that will not resonate with listeners expecting concise, neatly packaged musical content. Smig does, however, produce interesting musical concepts and explores varied emotions throughout the album. His efforts alone are undeniably impressive." This is Sophie Priestley, one of our seven composers prepping her final parts for tonight's session! (You can also find her taking over our instagram story on nyo_gb)

TEST PRESSING!⠀ ⠀ Vinyl is a completely physical medium that has to be created delicately. The mastering engineer 'cuts' copper disks for each side of the record that become the masters which all other disks are pressed from, much like making coins. Before you can print the full run you must do a test pressing where the manufacturer will create 10 copies for you to listen to and test quality control.⠀ ⠀ I've now received my test pressings for review and they're sounding incredible. It's quite a surreal moment to hold the physical manifestation of so many ideas, hours, and collaborations in your hands. Thank you jakeatair for adding your sound to the mix. Thank you Michele master_chord_studio for building one of the best studios in London. Thank you Beau at teneightsevenmastering for cutting my LP. Final run happening soon.⠀ ⠀ vinyl testpressing newmusic composer artist filmcomposer orchestral ambient electronicmusic analog synth outboardgear comingsoon newrelease optimalmedia angelstudiosuk LP meditative space science scifi albumartwork musician coppers album publishing firstvinyl immersivemusic immersiveart

2 weeks break from touching my viola 2 weeks ago, my loop that holds the tailpiece to the button (and rides the saddle) was loosening and as I was at a music festival in the middle of Finland, there weren't any nearby luthiers I could turn to until after the festival. I was diagnosed a week ago with acute lumbago, and couldn't walk and barely sit for a week without crippling pain that felt like someone was stabbing me. My father bought a few days ago for me a back brace that has a heating pad and sends electric shocks (between 56&57 bpm) to the back which has significantly helped in the recovery process and enables me to stand and walk for extended periods of time. When taking a significant break, I like to start with long tones, and focusing on my technique, making sure that every muscle is relaxed and that the bow is being used to it's full potential (here, half my attention to the bow arm, the other half to posture and relaxation). My goal here ISN'T to sound good, and that's important! The goal is to recuperate and rehabilitate the muscles and dexterity of playing the viola. What are ways you recuperate playing after a long break? - F minor melodic galamian scale at 56.5 bpm Happy to hear some critique or discussion points ~
