Throwback | Day 21 marchmeetthemaker
When I first picked up clay several years ago now, I had no experience of this craft whatsoever, nor any jewellery making experience.
Starting off with how to work the clay so it could be shaped, making beads that were round as opposed to weirdly odd looking shaped pieces (well, obviously that was the aim), learning how to work multiple colours of clay to create a marble effect, skinner blends, making simple canes and moving on to more complex millefiori beads.
On the jewellery side, initially I struggled to close jump rings -they just never seemed to meet back up as they should and would spend what felt like hours trying to crimp jewellery wire to secure beads in place!
I often look at my work and feel like its not really changed, but when I think about it, my skills as a polymer clay artist and jewellery designer & maker have come a long way, and I love that I’m still learning & picking up new tips and tricks all the time. ･
