You can do *anything*, but you can’t do everything
One more time:
You can do ANYTHING, but you can’t do EVERYTHING
While it is true that shitty ideas that fall short of execution are really just manure for future great ideas to grow in – – – it is ALSO true that nobody gives a hoot about the ideas that only exist in your head. Besides your near and dear ones, humanity doesn’t give a toot toot about what you’re dreaming up
People care about EXECUTION. What they can analyze, absorb or reject and reflect upon
But what to do if you have a bazillion ideas? If you suffer from Shiny Objects Syndrome like me, lean in close. I have some tips to help you cut through the bullshit:
1. Ask yourself, “Do *I* want to do this?” It sounds silly, but I have had a few genius lightbulb moments – some that were also had by other folks and became successful companies and projects.). Thing is, I didn’t want to do the work didn’t deeply care about the industry or topic. So I let the idea go back out with the tide
2. “What would have to change about my schedule to make this happen?” Listen, Hermoine. They took back your Time Turner. You have a certain number of hours. Where does this new idea fit into your schedule? Do you have to give up something or move stuff around to make room?
3. I call this, “Buy the Domain, Babe.” Most brilliant sparkly new ideas will require a website. If I’m excited about an idea, I’ll buy the URL. Buying the domain will either a) light a fire under my ass or b) satiate my desire and chill. In a year when the domain comes up for renewal, I (usually) realize I haven’t done anything for a year, and it’s time to let that idea go
Beyond that?! I plan and prioritize fucking EVERYTHING in my life, to make space for the stuff I really want to be doing. Sometimes, this means I have to viciously refuse to do things. 🖕🏻
