While recovering from a soft tissue injury on my left knee (meniscus tear) and while waiting for further tests, I'm not going to sit around and feel sorry for myself unable to do my runs or epliticals. Swimming a few laps in the pool is next best thing to do to get my heart rate up besides supersets or tri-sets for upper body workouts in the gym. Life should not come to a standstill. A long time ago I used the metaphor of "spinning plates" to describe programming to maintain health, while maximizing performance, and I still stand by it. The idea is that, in order to avoid injury while pursuing performance goals, you need to do a certain amount of "imbalance correction" or "imbalance avoidance" to stay in the game. Too much specialization creates imbalance, and imbalance creates overuse/injury, and in that way, the whole ordeal is a "balancing act" akin to a magician spinning several plates all at once. One example of this is my habitual pairing of Deadlifts and Front Squats. The two exercises compliment each other nicely because of the posterior/anterior strength/stability required to complete each. The point? Program mindfully. Don't be a lughead or you'll end up an injured lughead. Happy Friday Stay Human

New shoe day Ever since the marathon last year I have struggled with ankle pain from collapsed arches - physio is helping and huge insoles take the pain away when I'm using them but not when I'm not. This has led me to believe they are a band aid not a fix As a result I've joined the minimalist shoe movement with a pair of vivobarefoot to try and strengthen my feet so that my arches don't collapse. 🤞🤞🤞
