🥉 MedalMonday - My 1st Spartan Race SpartanAG Podium
SpartanAlabama, the 2nd stop of the SpartanUSNS2019
After Saturday’s Super & a 7th Place finish, I came back on Sunday for the Sprint aiming to finish w/ a top 5 placement
At the start line I told myself, “you’ve put in the time, you’ve put in the work, this is just a 5K, its time to let these wheels loose, GUN IT MIKE!”
35 minutes, 48 seconds later & a clean race, was good enough to secure a 3rd Place finish in my age group
My plan of action was to CHARGE.
Put myself in a position far enough to create a solid gap & maintain pace w/ 100% Obstacle Completion
Right from the start, I took off in front & ran HARD!
I held 1st Place until the “Herc Hoist”, where by day 2, that bag to me felt triple the weight, I was so close to dropping it, but using the “foot break” technique, I was able to maintain, rest the grip, and eventually get it to the top
By then, running into the spear throw i had dropped a few places, but I knew all I had to do was stick it & ide be right on their heals.
Approached the spear, gathering myself with a few deep breathes, lined it up, did a little side step skip & BOOM 🎯 Nailed it
At that very moment I felt a surge of energy & I just booked it. I knew all I had to do was finish strong & run my race
Kept charging, focused, w/ the competition in sight knowing the last section of obstacles was still ahead of us, where I knew that’s where things would be shaken up
Ran w/ the sandbag, crushed the tire flip, flipped over the vertical cargo, hand to hand zipping through the rings, sprinting to the A-Frame, then flipping over the top, into a full out Sprint over the fire jump to cross the finish line
One of the best finishes I’ve had going back & forth with 3-4 competitors through that last section of obstacles. We battled & my respects to you all. I saw my opportunities to gain when it came to the flips on the vertical cargo & A-Frame as well as the “Power L - Hand To Hand” Technique on the rings
