Been working up to this weight (50kg) for forever it feels ! Now I know the form isn’t particularly great and there’s a few things I could improve with this lift; but for me this is a pretty big achievement 💪🏼😊! Smith machines Why are they good to use ? First of all a smith machine is a machine which is resolved around a barbell which is in a fixed position. It is a good piece of kit to use and can be used in a variety of workouts targeting different muscle groups. The smith machine can be used as a great tool especially if you are training on your own. If you’re training is progressive ( as it should be ) you may not always feel confident that you can get Upto that next rep or weight . The smith machine could be a way to help you get there. It can almost act as your backup in the way that it has safety catches. In this video Jon is performing a shoulder press. If you get down to the bottom of the movement and you suddenly realise you can’t push it back up ; rolling the safety catches forward can allow you to stop right where you are. This would be a lot harder to do without a spotter or a training partner so in this case it’s a good piece of kit to use. You can perform most compound movements on the smith machine such as bench press , squat and shoulder press as seen in the video. MASSIVE PROGRESS POST! Back last year Abs couldn’t manage to do one conventional Tricep dip , we started off on bench dips . Fast forward to now and she’s now smashing out the conventional dips with an added 5kg attached to her ! Amazing work and she’s got soooooo strong ! tbt Using videos or photos is great way of seeing progress. Looking back where you started or looking back along the way is a good way of measuring what you have achieved. Everyone is guilty of looking at themselves in the mirror every day and there’s nothing wrong with that; but you’re unlikely to see a inch here or a cm here of difference as you’re constantly looking at yourself. Knee rehab : Here’s just one example of one exercise that I’ve got Duncan to do as part of his program which is to help him recover from a knee injury. Duncan suffered from a tear on his acl (anterior cruciate ligament) ; since performing exercises such as this , his balance has improved vastly along with strength in his quads and hamstrings.
