The word ‘amateur’ has two meanings.
That we often think of it in it’s most popular definition, as someone who isn’t quite professional or completely competent yet in a certain area.
But the most classical sense of amateur is actually “love”. It refers to someone who pursues something for the love of it, rather than the rewards that the world may offer
I had a conversation with a dear friend who was given the advice to “just for right now, make it your JOB to love your life.”
How bold, right? But this advice was given in the face of a life that was cluttered with the opinions and needs of everyone but the person who was actually living INSIDE of her life
And as I sat beside her, it seemed so elementary. That, of course, as part of the human experience- we would want to deeply enjoy our one round of it, ya? But I realized how often we deny ourselves the life we actually want or love. In small ways, and in the big ways. We often trade happiness for external expectations, and we all end up short of hand
So sending you the permission to embrace the sense of an amateur. The one who pursues problems, people, life out of love. Out of the pure joyous helluvit
This morning, it’s simply writing at this little desk with a cup of coffee.
More of that.
