I am no rapper or no racist activist but most of my life I have defended myself for wearing a Turban or being classed a Terrorist. I’ve been called names, attacked, my turban ripped off my head and self jeopardised opportunities because I saw “being different” as a disadvantage in life. Over the past week I have heard 2 unsettling stories that related to racist discrimination and identity, one of a religion to be attacked whilst praying and another of 4 Sikh men being taken of a plane because a passenger wasn’t comfortable with their identity.
Today we live in a magical time of opportunity and advancements in technology but the cultural mindset and education is still 100 years behind.
I am no rapper or a voice for racism movements but a voice for the many Turbaned Sikh Men who have battled with the challenges of judgement or conforming to social “norms”. Everyone, White, Black or Brown, Sikh, Christian or Muslim should stand proud of their beliefs if it is helping the world become a better place and share their love if it spreads peace and connection on this earth. 🙏🏽
