Last night, quite aptly, I found myself looking at a piece of work called "overwhelm."⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ It was a series of "structural assemblies" which looked like beautiful, rainbow bright discs, pins, swirls and circles beneath a horizontal snow globe on the wall. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ And I was lucky to have the artist standing next to me. [Hosted - Swipe to see the art!]⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I've felt a little lost, creatively, since trying to balance work and motherhood. In part, the exhaustion, the night after night of disrupted sleep and distracted attention.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ In part, let's face it, the increased need to make more money with less time, the Gordian knot of every generation. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I've felt like a sell out with less and less to sell.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ And last night, as I looked at this work in the Bahamas, I realised that I had forgotten two important things. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ And I've written a blog post to discuss what they are. Link in profile. Let me know your thoughts!⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ theglobewanderer madewithmap dametraveler finditliveit welltravelled letsgosomewhere stayandwander mytinyatlas lonelyplanet unlimitedparadise passportready lppathfinders⠀⠀ travelmorethinkmore thoughtfulluxury ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ bythewater calmwaters oceanviews⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ bahamas nassau itsbetterinthebahamas caribbean explorethebahamas nassaubahamas bahamasatheart thisisbahamas freelancelife amwriting writerlife ukblogger

Historical Tarsus Houses, Tarsus, Mersin, Turkey. The lower floor of the Historical Tarsus Houses, which were prepared by using stone, adobe and wood, were built in two sections as the warehouse and the upper floor as living space. Cotton grown in Çukurova is occupied in the warehouse of houses because it occupies a lot of space. Over the years, additions to these structures have been made, such as bathrooms and kitchens. The high wall and courtyard are some of the features of the traditional Tarsus Houses. Most of these old Ottoman houses are in Kızılmurat (Sofular) district, much of it newly restored. The finest street is Kemal Tursunbay Sokak which has been restored, recobbled and fitted out with an array of small cafes. "The people we meet and the things we see, the books we read and the places we travel, all have so much influence on us that it’s impossible to accurately predict our future. This is why we should stop writing our dreams in stone, because if they start to change, it’s so much more stressful and difficult to let go of those old dreams and accept the new ones. What we should do instead is definitely have an idea of where we want to go in our lives but also keep an open mind. By always living with the you today rather than the you from three years ago, you’ll be living true to yourself and won’t be trying to live out dreams that no longer fit your present character. So don’t stress so much about knowing every little detail of your life 20 years into the future, instead just go with the flow and be open to life’s little surprises along the way." - When Life Doesn’t Go Exactly How You Planned, Katya Grigoryeva 💙💚 travel traveling photo keepitwild shotzdelight wanderer finditliveit travelgirl traveladdict girlswhotravel darlingescapes lovetotravel traveldeeper wearetravelgirls dametraveler getaway sheisnotlost exploretocreate welltravelled doyoutravel islandgirl girlsborntotravel iphoneasia itsmorefuninthephilippines ph passionpassport dreamcatcher ilovetravel traveltheworld nature_wizards

Visited Com Ga Tram Anh for com ga xe (shredded drumstick chicken rice) with their fresh orange juice & a side of chicken soup for lunch. I also went back to Quán ăn A Kooc again for their mein ga earlier in the day. Yum.

The Soviet War Memorial, built to commemorate 5000 of the 80000 soviet soldiers who fell in the Battle of Berlin, 1945. It is also the burial site of 2000 of those fallen soldiers. The evening was cool enough that I wanted hot noodle soup. Bun Bo (a spicy pork noodle soup from Hue), on 127 Ngô Gia Tự, is perfectly made & 25k a bowl. I also went to Quán Bún Thịt Nướng 163 (a 30 year institution) for their mixed banh beo & vermicelli topped with spiced grilled pork & deep fried pork grinds for 35K a plate. You eat so well for so very little in Vietnam. These two were in a restaurant shop too. So much to eat too besides pho.

Another perfect day. Despite being in the cusp of rainy season in Vietnam & much of SE Asia, I’ve had quite some luck with the weather. Blazing hot but thank goodness for the cool waters from ocean.

I always have a mission to find a particular food but often get sidetracked by what’s offered on the way there (sometimes I actually can’t find it cos GMap is not very good for street food). Anyways, ended up having mien ga (much like chicken pho but with glass noodles). Quán ăn A Kooc on 81c Bạch ĐằNg if you are in Nha Trang. The funniest thing I’ve been doing is commenting how good the food is & typically the owner/cook would be like ok. 😂

Walked randomly into a street market while searching for food. This is where locals get their groceries for dinner tonight. I love wandering into one. I was able to pick up more rambutans & custard apples for later. Super cheap too.

There was a massive thunderstorm after I arrived to my apartment in Nha Trang so I was starving by the time I waited out the lightning & rain. Found a Bánh cuốn lady who adds both chả giò (egg rolls) & thịt nướng (grilled pork). Surprisingly, she said that shredded cucumbers don’t go with it. What? She only added it cos I wanted it.

Went to My An Market today to purposely visit a food stall famous for her ice cream & avocado (I opted for the durian) which she tops with coconut flakes. While I was there I also tucked into a mix plate of banh cuon (flat rice noodles) & banh uot (kind of like the Banh Xeo but it’s grilled in cup sized saucers) with Vietnamese ham. I also had some Viet donut (banh tieu) & bagged a few kilos of rambutan & lychee. Pretty fruitful visit.

Ended up finding Bánh xèo (savory rice flour pancakes stuffed with bean sprouts & shrimp) stall on the way back. I had to order some nem nướng (grilled pork) too. Everything is wrapped in a rice paper, various greens, & pickled carrots/daikon & then dipped in peanut sauce.

Wherever I go, I’m always seeking ways to cool down. Thankfully, Vietnam has several places & drinks to help you with that. I’m all about the sinh to (fruit smoothies), tropical juices, che (shaved iced coconut milk dessert), & lemon/kamquat ice teas myself. OK, OK, I like all sorts of drinks offered in Vietnam.

I had one of the best banh canh for lunch. Banh canh (found mostly in Central Vietnam) is a thick tapioca noodle & this version had pork bone, quail eggs, & assorted Vietnamese ham for garnish. The broth was so flavourful & it goes nicely with youtiao (the Chinese donut). Honestly, amazing despite the owners charging me a bit more because I was a foreigner (I hate that even though the difference was $0.20 but the principle of it all 😡).

Found this hideaway cafe called Cafe Ô Cửa Xanh & tucked under a canopy. It has a chill out vibe & provided a much needed respite from the heat. The Vietnamese coffee was very good too.

Bò Né, a staple breakfast in Central Vietnam. A sizzling hot plate of beef streak, pork ball, with eggs in tomato sauce. I couldn’t resist eating a baguette whilst in Vietnam, even though I broke a tooth on one a few weeks ago.

Took a Grab bike to a neighbourhood street for some Cơm gà Hội An (chicken rice & chicken salad Hoi An style) without having to venture to Hoi An. It’s so hot here that I’m craving anything that doesn’t make me sweat even more than I already am.

One of my favourite drinks from Central Vietnam is Vietnam iced coffee with coconut milk (cà phê cốt dừa). I’m pretty sure Starbucks stole this idea from Vietnam. The chain of Cong Caphe cafes has them available in the south as well.
