With the release of the new Lion King film, I'd like to dedicate the next few pics to the King of the animal kingdom. These two magnificent male Lions 🦁 brightened up what was otherwise a damp, cool and miserable (weather wise) start to our game drive. We cruised with these two for several minutes and if the encounter couldn't get any better, the Lions went on to check on two dozing Rhinos 🦏 (pics to follow later). Their interest soon waned once the Rhinos got up as if the enormity of the task suddenly dawned on them! Sadly I heard recently that the male in front was mortally wounded by some rival Lions a couple of weeks after this photo was taken. Nature can be awe inspiring one day and brutal the next. africanimals africanlion africa lion lionsofinstagram lions bigcats bigcat bigcatsofinstagram big5 wildaboutafrica wildestafrica wildestsouthafrica krugernationalpark krugerpark krugerpark krugerexplorer krugerthroughmyeyes southafrica animallovers animalphotography wildlifephotography wildlife wildlife_seekers naturephotography nature naturelovers natgeowild safari

🐱 Subject: Lion (Panthera leo melanochaita)⁣ ⁣ 🌎 Location: Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa⁣ ⁣ 📉 Animal Status IUCN: Vulnerable & decreasing⁣ ⁣ 📖 Story: This male lion and its other male companion both had eye issues. The odd part was the other male had a similar eye condition in the opposite eye. Isn’t that interesting. These males rested most of the day behind a small tree but when the sun finally started to retreat, they came out into the open giving me a few moments before having to head back to camp.⁣ ⁣ 👍 Photographed in the wild. Repost wildestafrica with make_repost ・・・ NOT FOR SENSITIVE VIEWERS! This is the reality of Ivory Poaching in Botswana and across Africa. Elephants slaughtered, mutilated with chainsaws and left to rot in the sun. wildestafrica — 📸 via damian_aspinall How can this be okay? How can this be the reality and the future for Elephants? I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by this! 💔 It’s despicable, vile, cruel, unforgivable and I can’t believe I’m still reading about this and seeing this happen, it makes me so angry and upset! 🐘🐘 Please share and raise awareness and let everyone who will listen know that Ivory trade is on the rise and we need to fight against it and keep fighting everyday! 💪🏼 elephant elephants africanelephants banivorytrade ivorytrade saveelephants protectelephants bekindtoelephants raisingawareness endpoachingnow banpoaching

We found this Leopard walking towards an Elephant carcass she started feeding on the day before this image was taken. The elephant’s skull became detached from the body and became a “snack on the run” for this Leopard. She would climb a tree, and then shortly after drop the skull. Today marks the opening of the new lionking movie by disney in many countries around the world. In 25 years since the original was in cinemas it is thought that half of Africa’s wild Lions have disappeared That’s both shocking and depressing. To help save these magnificent animals Disney has launched the protectthepride campaign to build awareness and support conservation efforts. To help celebrate the launch of the movie and also highlight the beauty of these majestic cats Here’s a real Lion King I had the pleasure to witness in Botswana 🦁🥰 bbcearth bbcspringwatch wildestafrica hubs_united wildlifeonearth wildlifeplanet animalsonland wildlife.hd capturethewild nuts_about_wildlife discoverwildlife exclusivewildlife

The puff adder is reputed to be the snake that kills the most people in Africa. A fact that is better kept in mind when laying on your belly a meter away But they are ambush predators and predators of small animals at that. They want nothing to do with humans and will actually go to great lengths to avoid biting one. As with most deadly interactions between people and snakes they occur when the former decides it wants to handle or kill the latter. Let them be and you most likely will be fine. Impala are underrated. Even though they are the most common large mammal in Africa and you seem to see them almost anywhere you look, they should not be disregarded as boring or ordinary. Whilst photographing game drinking at Sweni Hide in the Kruger National Park we got news of a leopard that had a kill in a large, nearby Leadwood tree. We departed just before sunset.
