Have discomfort with Bulgarian split squats? Try this!
The Bulgarian split squat can be a an excellent exercise to have in your training programme as it helps to develop unilateral strength and stabilisation.
However, its also a very technical exercise which for some can mean it’s uncomfortable to perform (especially when raising your back foot on a bench). If you have this problem try using a hip thrust pad around a barbell that’s set just below your knee height.
This will allow your foot to be in a more natural position giving you more movement through your rear foot meaning it can roll with the pad, rather than being in a fixed position like it is on a bench. Doing this also allows for greater range of motion. More movement can mean a greater stretch, which leads to more direct tension on the muscles we’re trying to work and strengthen 🔑
